It was difficult to contemplate that art, music, foreign languages and stem were all on the cutting block. I spent the year packing up projects and materials as we finished them, it was as you can imagine difficult. I thought, who is going to tell the kids what was about to happen. To my surprise I received the news that I still had my job but would likely have no budget. As it stands the budget has never increased even thought the cost of materials has skyrocketed, thats when I decided to try out Donor's Choose.\r\n\r\n My goal was to have enough every day materials to get us through the first half of the year and \"Save the arts\" program. Your generosity has allowed us to do that. Students were able to learn about artists and apply what we have learned into their projects. We painted sculpted, designed and had fun. They discussed artists like Mondrian, van Gogh Chihuly and Britto. We talked about the fire at Notre Dame and how the Rose Window had bee saved. On a personal note, while holding a sign reminding people to vote for an override to save our schools, a parent approached me and told me that her daughter had come home and was so excited to tell her all about what she had learned about the Rose Window and that they she going to make her own stained glass. Another parent told me that art is one of the reasons her daughter loves to come to school. I hope that you know that what you have done has made a difference. Everything that you donated has enabled us to do what we set out to do.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us save the arts!\r\nMrs. Elliott","fullyFundedDate":1761999899517,"projectUrl":"project/save-the-arts/9446477/","projectTitle":"Save the Arts!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Elliott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10070926"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61775","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":347,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":25,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":65,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"15.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.4,"schoolId":61775,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/stoneham-public-schools/south-elementary-school/61775"}
