The students in my Social Emotional Behavioral groups are really enjoying the sand bin the most! My space has become exactly what I was hoping it would; a relaxing space for students to be able to regulate, de-escalate, and really enjoy utilizing. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to see all of the items we received. The SEL lessons in the books that were provided have been really helpful in keeping the students engaged in learning SEL and have provided them with many fundamentals of social emotional learning.\r\n\r\nMany of the notebooks and drawing books are being put to use starting after the Thanksgiving break! We are beginning to do journal writing using SEL prompts. Thanks to your generosity, that vision is now real, and it's already making a difference.\r\n\r\nEven before school began, families and students visiting during our back-to-school BBQ commented on how welcoming and peaceful the room felt. Students smiled and said, \"This is a room I'll go to when I need support.\" Hearing that before the first day reassured me that the tools you provided—beanbags, the sensory tent, calming dog, weighted bear, and calming kits—were exactly what our community needed.\r\n\r\nIn the three days since school started, this space has been used several times a day to help students experiencing big emotions settle down and successfully return to class. Here are just a few examples from our first week:\r\n\r\nA nervous 6th grader overwhelmed by the transition to middle school settled into a beanbag with the weighted bear, calmed down, and then proudly rejoined her math class.\r\n\r\nA 7th grader who had a blow-up in the cafeteria used the sensory tent to take a break, practice breathing, and return ready to finish the day successfully.\r\n\r\nA brand-new 6th grader who started school today and was upset and dysregulated cycled through nearly every resource-the beanbags, the tent, and the fidgets. He came in anxious and angry and refusing to engage and he left saying he loved the room and even made a personal goal so he could earn time here as an incentive.\r\n\r\nTwo students who had never met me before both came in to take a break. They both liked the calming dog and within minutes, they were smiling, talking, and making plans to see each other at lunch.\r\n\r\nBecause of the welcoming setup you helped provide, we'll also be able to host a community organization that brings in therapy dogs. Students will now have a safe, comfortable way to sit on the beanbags and interact with the dogs, an experience that builds connection and teaches important skills. \r\n\r\nBeing new to the school myself, this space has also given me a natural \"in\" with students.
