For students who are sensitive to sound, especially those with sensory needs, the reduced noise has helped them feel more relaxed and ready to participate in lessons.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the tennis balls on the chairs, they were excited and curious about how something so small could make such a big difference. They immediately noticed how much quieter the classroom felt, and many commented that it helped them concentrate better during independent work and small group instruction. The tennis balls have also helped students move their chairs more smoothly, allowing for easier transitions between activities throughout the day.\r\n\r\nAs we continue working on foundational first-grade skills such as guided reading, writing workshops, and collaborative math activities, the quieter environment is helping students stay engaged for longer periods of time. Because it's a giant world map, we've already used it to practice locating the continents and talking about places we read about in books. For my students with sensory needs, the soft surface helps them stay comfortable and engaged, while for the whole class, it gives us a common spot to focus and learn together.\r\n\r\nThis project may seem simple, but it's had a real impact on our classroom.
