The book about going back to school has also been a helpful way to talk with students about the transition into a new school year and the feelings that can come along with it.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful parts has been seeing how quickly students have made these resources their own. Some students were immediately excited to explore the putty and other sensory tools, while others were grateful for something as simple as a snack or drink when they were hungry or had forgotten one. These may seem like small things, but having these resources available means students can get what they need and get back to learning without feeling singled out or having to go without.\r\n\r\nThe office supplies have also been put to good use behind the scenes, helping us keep materials organized, create visual supports, and make resources that students can use throughout the year. I've been learning practical, research-based strategies to support students in building self-awareness, emotional regulation, and positive relationships—skills that are essential for both academic success and overall well-being. The training has also emphasized the importance of educator wellness, reminding me that supporting students starts with taking care of ourselves.\r\n\r\nOne of the highlights so far has been the opportunity to actively engage in mindfulness practices and reflect on how they can be adapted for students. Practices like guided breathing, grounding exercises, and mindful movement have helped me see how simple yet powerful these strategies can be in helping students feel calm, focused, and ready to learn. I've also really valued connecting with other educators who are passionate about supporting the whole child and creating more inclusive, supportive learning environments.\r\n\r\nOne specific strategy I have already begun incorporating into my work is starting sessions with brief breathing or grounding exercises to support student regulation and transitions. For example, I've introduced a \"five-finger breathing\" activity, where students trace their fingers while breathing in and out slowly.
