Because of you, my students now have a space that helps them feel safe, focused, and ready to learn each day.\r\n\r\nThe materials you helped provide are making a meaningful difference. Flexible seating and calming tools give students the freedom to choose where and how they learn best. This not only supports focus and self-regulation but also helps reduce anxiety and increase engagement. Students who once struggled to stay seated or manage stress now have options that meet their individual needs—helping them build confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nYour support has transformed our classroom into a welcoming, inclusive environment where every learner can thrive. Thank you for believing in the power of calm, choice, and compassion in education. Because of your kindness, my students are learning that school can be a place where they feel seen, supported, and successful.","fullyFundedDate":1746466360236,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-calm-flexible-and-inclusive/9180029/","projectTitle":"Creating a Calm, Flexible, and Inclusive Learning Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Oliver","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7462679_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723036099474","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7462679"},{"teacherId":9778477,"projectId":8822072,"letterContent":"Sorry it's taken me a bit to get to get back to you. We rounded out the school year with a culminating project on courage that you helped fund. \r\n\r\nTo fully describe the impact, it's important that you know that the kids in my classroom are some of the most significantly impacted of the 700+ students in the building. Their disabilities range from severe cognitive impairment, PTSD, severe ADHD, and autism. Twenty-five percent of this classroom identified as Black and three fifths had experienced houselessness at one point in their lives. I say this so that you understand that you have helped some of the most vulnerable populations we have on this planet, and your gift makes a huge impact. It made it possible for them to not only read some incredible books but also demonstrate their knowledge and comprehension in creative ways.\r\n\r\nThis year we looked at Veterans Day and 9/11 poems, Black history up to the Civil Rights Movement, literature of the Holocaust, and dystopias. Of the books we read this year--Number the Stars, Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963, and Hunger Games, most resonated with Watsons. The novel's author, Christopher Paul Curtis, is one of my favorites. He combines humor with seriousness in a way that I have yet to see a coming-of-age novel do so effectively. Meanwhile, all the ingredients are there--rich figurative language, complicated family dynamics, episodic plot points with deep, complicated characters. I encourage you to read it if you haven't yet!\r\n\r\nAll to say: thank you thank you thank you. The year culminated in asking these students what true courage is. Needless to say: they all got it. Sometimes it's going to war in a uniform. Sometimes it's an uprising in a Warsaw ghetto. But it's also giving some your sandwich to another kid who's hungry; sometimes it's having the courage to express one's feelings, or sticking up for the person who's being picked on.\r\n\r\nThanks for making it happen!","fullyFundedDate":1732035577701,"projectUrl":"project/high-school-texts-modified-for-disabili/8822072/","projectTitle":"High School Texts: Modified for Disabilities","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bonanni","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9778477"},{"teacherId":7462679,"projectId":8947969,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous contribution to our classroom through our DonorsChoose project. Your support has had a profound impact on my students, transforming their learning experience and empowering them to engage with content in dynamic and meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, the iPad and Apple Pencil have opened new doors for my students to express themselves creatively and think critically. They are now able to explore interactive apps, take organized and detailed notes, and design multimedia projects that showcase their understanding. \r\n\r\nThe color printer has brought these digital creations to life, giving students the opportunity to see their hard work take physical form. There is something magical about holding a printed version of a project they've worked so hard on—it reinforces the value of their effort and encourages them to take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThe addition of flexible seating has also made a noticeable difference in the classroom environment. Students now have the freedom to choose a learning space that supports their comfort and focus, whether it's sitting in a cozy chair to read independently or collaborating with peers at a shared workspace. This flexibility has increased their engagement and productivity, allowing them to approach their learning with confidence.\r\n\r\nA particularly exciting outcome has been the positive impact on students who struggle with interpreting visuals, especially in subjects like geometry. For these students, visualizing shapes, angles, and spatial relationships can be overwhelming and frustrating. However, with the use of the iPad and Apple Pencil, they can now interact with geometry in ways that make abstract concepts more accessible and concrete. They are able to manipulate shapes, annotate diagrams, and use interactive geometry apps that allow them to explore concepts from different angles and perspectives. This hands-on approach has enabled them to better grasp difficult concepts and build confidence in their abilities.\r\n\r\nBy giving these students the ability to engage with visual content in an interactive and personalized way, they are not only keeping pace with their peers but also developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. The ability to visualize and experiment with mathematical concepts has made a significant difference in their success and overall enthusiasm for learning.\r\n\r\nThese tools have not only provided my students with 21st-century skills but have also helped foster a sense of independence and creativity. Many of my students face unique challenges, but with these resources, they are empowered to explore concepts in ways that resonate with their individual learning styles. It has been inspiring to witness their growth, as they take initiative, collaborate with their peers, and develop a deeper understanding of the material.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has truly made a difference. You have given my students the opportunity to learn, create, and explore in ways that would not have been possible without your support. On behalf of my students and myself, thank you for investing in their futures and helping to create an inclusive, innovative, and inspiring learning environment.","fullyFundedDate":1735657793375,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-learning-with-technology-ipa/8947969/","projectTitle":"Empowering Learning With Technology: iPad, Flexible Seating, and Creative Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Oliver","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7462679_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723036099474","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7462679"},{"teacherId":9734411,"projectId":8746339,"letterContent":"A co-worker and I started a little \"store\" in 2021 consisting of local donations to provide food for our food-insecure students. There was no signing up, no questions asked, just distributed as the students were leaving on Friday afternoon. Thanks to your donation, we were able to put some joy into those bags as well with fun yummy little snacks.\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, the food pantry has discontinued their donations, and the local store has cut down on donations.
