One item you gifted each student was a pencil box. Students start the day with the tools they need for their daily learning: pencil, highlighter, expo marker, etc., in their box. This saves lots of looking around and is helping all to learn to be accountable for their own materials. Thank you!\r\n\r\nWith staff instruction, a small group of students followed directions and assembled the mailbox. Another group used a classroom numbering system to assign each student a mailbox cubby. Each cubby is helping students know where to find their mail and take home folders. Students are feeling confident, knowing where to find their personal materials.\r\n\r\nThe expo markers are helping students check off the items on their daily agenda that they have completed. They are also using them to update our classroom monthly calendar with appointments and special events.\r\n\r\nI can't tell you how excited my students were to open the materials delivered to our classroom. Upon seeing the unassembled mailbox, 4 students immediately volunteered to be on the crew to assemble it. They enjoyed using tools and working with a staff member to assemble. My students greatly benefitted from this special project which involved art, horticulture, marketing and sales. They and I would like to thank you for your generosity in providing the funds to take our project from a class concept to a completed class project. \r\n\r\nDuring the months of February and March, my students painted clay pots as part of a work skills class. In April, students potted up baby succulent plants that they had grown in our classroom all year. Students made posters to advertise their plant sale. Finally, on the day of the Pop Up Plant Salem, students set up their store, greeted customers and sold their plants just in time for Mothers' Day. \r\n\r\nDuring the sale, my students had hands-on experience working in a store, selling their plants, sharing plant care tips, and making change.
