I now have a vast collection of books that cover a multitude of topics that I can read aloud to my students during our social emotional learning block. I have found that most if not all of these books allow me to extend the lesson with engaging activities that I can create or find on many teacher resource sites. The books also lend themselves beautifully to the engagement of students via powerful discussions.\r\n\r\nI was inspired to create a Social Emotional Learning Library after attending an incredible professional development seminar all about the use of humorous picture books as a bridge to discussing challenging topics that affect children's social emotional well being. These topics include self awareness, self management, relationship skills and character development. I had not realized how many picture books existed that explore so many topics that affect my students on a daily basis and do so in such a developmentally appropriate manner using humor. \r\n\r\nAt this time, my school does not have a Social Emotional Learning curriculum that teachers can utilize and implement into their weekly schedules. We are blessed with an amazing adjustment counselor who is aptly skilled and willing to provide resources upon request. Due to the vast needs of our population, she is often pulled in a multitude of directions to assist with students and does not have the opportunity to share her wealth of knowledge. For these reasons, I wanted to design a curriculum of my own that would benefit not only my current class, but ALL the students I will teach in the future as well.\r\n\r\nI am sure their will be some bumps along the way as I launch this new curriculum in my classroom, but I am so excited to see what this vision will become!","fullyFundedDate":1744205269507,"projectUrl":"project/laughter-and-sel-lessons-in-picture-book/9238325/","projectTitle":"Laughter and SEL Lessons in Picture Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Montville","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7830653_orig.jpg?crop=1517,1517,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743979457250","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7830653"},{"teacherId":8433949,"projectId":9389701,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible donation of writing supplies for my classroom. The impact was immediate and visible. Watching my students' faces light up as they each received their own new pencils, notebooks, and colorful pens was truly special. These aren't just supplies; they are tools that have already boosted their excitement and engagement, making writing feel less like a chore and more like the creative adventure it should be.\r\n\r\nHaving these materials readily available has fostered a new sense of independence among my students. The ability for each child to have their own set of supplies has allowed them to be prepared and focused on their work. I've already noticed an improvement in the pride and effort in their writing, as they are able to concentrate on the content and craft of their ideas. This donation has removed a significant barrier for many of my students and has given every child the resources they need to succeed.\r\n\r\nThe TpT gift card is an additional and equally valuable gift. It will allow me to purchase innovative graphic organizers, motivating writing templates, and engaging task cards, all of which are essential for building strong writing skills. Your generosity has not only provided my students with the fundamental tools they need but has also empowered me to bring new, inspiring resources into the classroom. Thank you again for your thoughtful and impactful support.","fullyFundedDate":1752915635933,"projectUrl":"project/from-ideas-to-essays-equipping-students/9389701/","projectTitle":"From Ideas to Essays: Equipping Students With Essential Writing Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Haas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8433949_orig.jpg?crop=2047,2047,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720186965846","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/desgrade3room32"},{"teacherId":8433949,"projectId":9150564,"letterContent":"It was with immense gratitude that I received the literacy resources for my classroom. The materials, including task cards and dictionaries, are already making a significant impact on my students' learning. My students are now able to practice essential skills like reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary in a more hands-on way, which has greatly increased their engagement. Seeing them take ownership of their learning by actively using these tools has been a truly rewarding experience.\r\n\r\nThese new resources have been instrumental in fostering independent learning among my students. The task cards provide focused practice on specific skills like text analysis and written expression, allowing students to work at their own pace and reinforce concepts we've covered as a class. Having access to quality dictionaries also empowers them to expand their vocabulary and find immediate support as they read and write. This has directly improved their ability to comprehend diverse texts and articulate their own ideas with greater clarity.\r\n\r\nThe generosity you've shown by providing these materials has been invaluable. You have not only equipped my students with the tools they need to become proficient readers and writers, but you have also helped to create a classroom environment where they feel confident and empowered to take charge of their own literacy development. Thank you for your support in building a comprehensive library of resources that will benefit my students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1746646947715,"projectUrl":"project/building-bridges-to-literacy/9150564/","projectTitle":"Building Bridges to Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Haas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8433949_orig.jpg?crop=2047,2047,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720186965846","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/desgrade3room32"},{"teacherId":8433949,"projectId":8979755,"letterContent":"I can't tell you how exciting it is to have received all of the boxes with our project items. The new whiteboard is perfect! It adjusts easily to different heights, and it's on wheels! I can move it around and use it in all parts of the room. The new bins are perfect for organizing our indoor recess games and book club materials. The small cart is so useful for holding my teaching manuals, papers for the day, and classroom tools. By far the pencil holders for the desks are my favorite because it keeps their pencils in one place and off the floor!\r\n\r\nThe kids were so excited to see the new items. They love using our whiteboard during small group, morning meeting time, and for collecting data, just to name a few. They love the little table to grab any tools they need, and it gives us another working surface. In New England, we have many indoor recess days due to the cold. The bins keep our smaller games all in one place and so easy to find. Lost pencils have been a battle since the beginning of the school year, but now their pencils have a place to stay put...they love it all!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting my project.
