Your generosity has helped me get more books into the hands of my students. The graphic novels I was able to purchase are a great addition to my classroom library because they interest and engage students. Many of the books are part of series that my students love. Students are very interested in reading these graphic novels and borrow them to read when they have free time in school and at home. The more my students read, the better readers they will become.\r\n\r\nI want my students to become better readers, but I also want them to enjoy reading. Students are more likely to enjoy reading when they can choose the books they want to read. When I get new books, such as the graphic novels I was able to purchase through my project, I talk about them to students to get them excited about reading them. I try to promote a culture of reading by sharing books with students and having them talk about what they have read with their peers. I also have a bulletin board on which I post pictures of students with books they have read so that other students can get ideas about books they may like to read.\r\n\r\nGraphic novels have interested students who are often reluctant to read. Because graphic novels have a lot of visuals and characters that students love, many readers find them engaging. These novels are usually shorter than traditional books so students who have not yet built the stamina for longer books can access them. If my students have a book in their hands and are reading, they are becoming better readers. I am grateful to have more graphic novels in my classroom so my students can keep improving their reading abilities, but can also learn to love reading.","fullyFundedDate":1730413007051,"projectUrl":"project/graphic-novels-rule/8836694/","projectTitle":"Graphic Novels Rule","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maucione","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/688466"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60331","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":392,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":31,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":81,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":94.4,"schoolId":60331,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Joseph DeMello Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Joseph DeMello Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/dartmouth-school-district/joseph-demello-elementary-school/60331"}
