During morning meetings or at the end of the day, we read and discuss stories that help students identify emotions, understand others' perspectives, and practice problem-solving. Many of my students are learning English, so the visuals and repeated language in these books support both their social-emotional growth and their language development. Students are learning to name their feelings, use sentence frames to express themselves, and connect what happens in the stories to their own lives.\r\nStudents turn and talk, act out scenarios, and make connections between the characters and their own experiences. These books have helped create a shared language around feelings and behavior, which has made a noticeable difference in how students handle conflicts. These books have not only supported their reading development, but have also helped build a more caring, respectful classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1768517598245,"projectUrl":"project/building-stronger-hearts-and-minds-with/9767921/","projectTitle":"Building Stronger Hearts and Minds with SEL Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Windman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9703363"},{"teacherId":5717735,"projectId":9677359,"letterContent":"Thanks you so much for your generous donations to our classroom. The students were so excited when the packages arrived. They loved watching me open each one as we talked about how the items would be used in our classroom. \r\n\r\nThe staff items like the pencil sharpener and shredder have made our lives more convenient during our busy days. We've saved a lot of time by not having to sharpen pencils by hand or bring confidential items to another place in the school to be shredded. \r\n\r\nThe students have loved working hard to earn the new items in the prize box. The whistles and pop-tubes seem to be the favorite item. The knetic sand is currently their favorite center and I don't picture the excitement of it dying down any time soon.\r\n\r\nThank you all again for helping to bring some positivity to our learning environment!","fullyFundedDate":1758838145435,"projectUrl":"project/new-classroom-materials/9677359/","projectTitle":"New Classroom Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hurte","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5717735_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1540513158021","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5717735"},{"teacherId":8621685,"projectId":9451226,"letterContent":"Thank-You Response for Number the Stars\r\n\r\nFirst, I want to say a huge thank you to all of the donors who made it possible for my 5th graders to have their very own copies of Number the Stars. This novel has been such an incredible addition to our classroom library and book club rotations. Because of your generosity, every student has been able to hold a copy in their hands — no sharing, no waiting — which has completely transformed our discussions and engagement.\r\n\r\nThrough Number the Stars, my students have been introduced to key reading skills such as analyzing character motivation, identifying themes of courage and friendship, and making text-to-world connections. We've talked deeply about empathy, bravery, and how ordinary people can make extraordinary choices during difficult times. It's been a powerful way to tie history and literacy together.\r\n\r\nDuring book club time, students read in small groups, annotate with sticky notes, and discuss their thoughts using accountable talk stems (\"I agree because...\" or \"I wonder why...\"). The room buzzes with curiosity — students lean in, share discoveries, and respectfully debate their interpretations. These moments are where critical thinking and compassion come alive.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my readers who used to shy away from chapter books are now begging for \"just one more page.\" One student shared that she went home and asked to read more historical fiction because this book \"made her feel brave.\" Others have taken the lead in group discussions, showing newfound confidence as readers and thinkers.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just give us books — it gave my students a reason to love reading even more. Thank you for believing in the power of stories and for helping my 5th graders grow as readers, writers, and humans.","fullyFundedDate":1752618520526,"projectUrl":"project/cool-kids-read-books/9451226/","projectTitle":"Cool Kids Read Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McAlpine","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8621685_orig.jpg?crop=363,363,x305,y240&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660661304037","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8621685"},{"teacherId":9703363,"projectId":9105956,"letterContent":"When my students first saw the materials, they were so excited!
