With the LEGO building sets, Snap Circuits, electricity and magnetism kits, solar-powered STEM kits, wind-powered cars, and robotics materials, my students have more opportunities to explore STEM through hands-on learning.\r\nThese materials allow my students to move beyond simply learning about technology and become technology creators, builders, and problem-solvers. Students can build models, explore circuits and electricity, experiment with solar and wind power, and learn how different components work together. They will have opportunities to design, test, troubleshoot, and improve their projects while practicing important skills such as creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, engineering, and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nThe Snap Circuits and electricity kits give students an opportunity to explore basic electronics and understand how circuits work. The solar-powered robots, solar kits, and wind-powered cars allow students to explore renewable energy and engineering concepts in a fun and meaningful way. The LEGO building sets also give students opportunities to practice following directions, building carefully, and thinking about structure, design, and detail.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these materials give my students more reasons to participate, try something new, and feel successful in technology class. Some students may be hesitant when they first see a new STEM activity, but having materials they can physically build and experiment with gives them a chance to learn by doing. Students can start with simple challenges and gradually build their confidence and skills.\r\nMy goal is for students to leave my classroom knowing that they can create, build, design, troubleshoot, and solve problems—not just use technology. The printer has also helped me tremendously by having access to print out teaching documents immediately instead of having to wait to use a shared copy machine. \r\nThe LEGO kits are a favorite. Students are using them to build, test, and redesign as they explore engineering, math, and teamwork concepts. The excitement comes from being able to experiment, make mistakes, and try again—something that builds confidence and perseverance.\r\nDiamond Art has also been incredibly engaging. Students love the focus and creativity it encourages, and many find it calming and rewarding to complete a detailed project step by step.\r\nStudents who have especially benefited\r\nSome of our students who struggle with traditional instruction have truly shined with these materials. Hands-on learners and students who need sensory or creative outlets have been more focused, motivated, and willing to participate.
