With your support, we received the calculators, dowels, wireless clicker, and cleaning supplies that have transformed our classroom labs from good to game-changing.\r\n\r\nAlmost every lesson in our inquiry-driven science curriculum now connects hands-on experimentation with meaningful data analysis. Students use the calculators to crunch numbers during velocity, force, and motion investigations. These are especially helpful to meet the needs of our students who struggle with calculations. \r\n\r\nThe wooden dowels became our unofficial engineering challenge: teams used them to build bridges and catapults, testing, redesigning, and learning persistence through trial and error. \r\n\r\nAnd the Lysol wipes played an important role too. My students and I were truly overjoyed by the kindness of these donations. The timing could not have been better. The supplies arrived just as we wrapped up our unit on force, motion, and Newton's Laws. To celebrate and deepen their understanding, each student had the opportunity to build their own catapult. They used their problem-solving skills to follow the instructions, their creativity to personalize their designs, and their new science knowledge to determine how to launch their projectiles farther or higher.\r\n\r\nThe activity was both highly engaging and deeply educational. Students measured distances, recorded data, adjusted variables, and refined their designs as they tested and improved their catapults. It was inspiring to watch them apply physics concepts in real time and recognize the impact of their own decisions on their results.\r\n\r\nAlthough one of my classes has not yet completed the project, they are incredibly excited after seeing the finished catapults from other groups. The anticipation is building!\r\n\r\nThese materials have truly transformed our classroom. Students now see the supplies on our shelves and immediately ask what hands-on investigation we are doing next. It has been very impactful to students' behavior and class participation. They have become excited about learning and earning Conaway Ca$h which allows them to improve their learning and interact more with each other. Some students who also have struggled with paying attention have found the snacks to help them focus more and worry less about being hungry or needing an afternoon pick-me-up. \r\n\r\nAt our school, we use a supplemental online math program called IXL. It allows students to practice math skills. One way that they can earn Conaway Ca$h is by spending time on the IXL program. Student usage increased by 47% once the incentive was out in place and students started earning snacks. The prizes encourage students to set and achieve goals.
