Students enjoy hearing about topics like bullying, worry, anger and friendship in the form of a story. During the story, students think about how the story relates to them or something in their life and we can discuss this as a class. Often they find similarities with themselves and the characters in the book. \r\nWith each book, I created lessons or activities to go with them. For the bullying book, students role played different scenarios with each other. It was a hit and they were able to connect with the characters. \r\nStudents who have difficulty with making and keeping friends or students that are bullied or teased by others were so happy to read a story that made it seem like they weren't the only one feeling hurt by these actions. \r\nThe books are displayed on my bookshelf and almost every day a student pulls one of them off to read again. \r\nThank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1735681359898,"projectUrl":"project/read-aloud-books/8974582/","projectTitle":"Read Aloud Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Spoales","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9506917_orig.jpg?crop=1008,1008,x2835,y819&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1712344320428","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9506917"},{"teacherId":9506917,"projectId":9044672,"letterContent":"This was a very enjoyable project for our students! Students were able to choose a rock and think of a design that they would like to create to support their social and emotional wellness. Some students created \"calming rocks\" and created them with soothing colors and designs. They wrote comforting words on them, such as breathe, peace or hope. The creativity was abundant! They took time and it also sparked conversation about of these rocks would help them. Other students created \"positivity rocks\" using colorful designs and words such as \"you rock,\" \"you and do it\" and \"keep going.\" The spoke about places they will leave their rock so it will be a reminder to them. \r\n\r\nThe materials were perfect! The rocks were a decent size and smooth for painting and decorating. They were slightly different sizes and students could choose their favorite rock. The paints were a wide range of colors and some had different sheens to them (glitter, glossy, matte). This allowed every student to create a unique and personalized rock. At the end they enjoyed walking around and seeing how everyone designed their rock.","fullyFundedDate":1741782124834,"projectUrl":"project/river-rock-painting-project/9044672/","projectTitle":"River Rock Painting Project","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Spoales","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9506917_orig.jpg?crop=1008,1008,x2835,y819&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1712344320428","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9506917"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64846","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":326,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":23,"percentAsian":40,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":22,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.3,"schoolId":64846,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cedar Grove Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cedar Grove Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/montgomery-county-public-schools/cedar-grove-elementary-school/64846"}
