Sessions include structured lessons, role-playing exercises, and interactive activities that help students practice communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution. When students struggle with social skills, it can impact their academics and self confidence. By engaging in these activities, students are given the opportunity to apply social skills in real-life scenarios, building their confidence and ability to navigate various social situations. Visual aids, such as charts and diagrams, are also incorporated to reinforce key concepts and make the learning process more accessible for diverse learners.\r\n\r\nIn addition to direct instruction, the social skills materials are being used to create a supportive therapy room environment where students feel safe to express themselves and build positive relationships with peers. I am using these resources to model appropriate behavior, encourage peer interactions, and provide feedback on social interactions. These materials not only help students in the present but also lay the foundation for strong interpersonal skills that will benefit them in future academic, community-based and personal situations.","fullyFundedDate":1735415190307,"projectUrl":"project/social-skills-for-speech-therapy/8897919/","projectTitle":"Social Skills For Speech Therapy!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Norof","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9801722"},{"teacherId":9801722,"projectId":8873401,"letterContent":"The sensory materials, including fidgets and seat modifications, are playing a pivotal role in helping my students remain engaged during sessions. These tools provide students with the opportunity to move or interact in a way that helps them focus better on their work. For example, fidget toys help release excess energy, allowing students to stay attentive without feeling restless, while seat modifications like cushions help improve posture and comfort, further enhancing concentration. The use of these materials creates a more inclusive and adaptive learning environment where students with different needs can thrive.\r\n\r\nWhen students first encountered these sensory tools, their excitement was palpable. They eagerly explored the different options available to them, and it was evident that they felt empowered to take control of their learning experience. Many students, particularly those who often struggle to sit still or stay engaged for long periods, were thrilled to have these resources at their disposal. The positive reaction was not only about the novelty of the materials but also about how these tools made them feel more supported and capable of participating actively in the lessons. This excitement contributed to an increased sense of motivation and enthusiasm for their learning journey.","fullyFundedDate":1729270462119,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-tools-for-mrs-norof/8873401/","projectTitle":"Sensory Tools for Mrs. Norof","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Norof","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9801722"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64690","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":471,"numTeachers":48,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":46,"percentWhite":15,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":73.1,"schoolId":64690,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Harper's Choice Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Harper's Choice Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/howard-county-public-school-system/harper-s-choice-middle-school/64690"}
