The physical education equipment has had such an incredible impact on my students' lives. One of my students told me she had never had so much to play with before. Moments like that, keep me inspired to continue to touch lives, and overjoyed that your donation helped this moment to happen.\r\n\r\nHere is a list of items that were received thanks to your donation. The equipment is benefiting students in grades PK-8 with the focus on grades PK-2.\r\n\r\n15 soft volleyballs\r\n10 indoor soccer balls\r\nindoor kickball bases\r\nbasketball cart for storage\r\n10 beach balls\r\nbalance beams\r\nfun tube for crawling\r\nwalking stilts for balancing\r\nstepping stones for balancing\r\nmagnetic tiles for building\r\n10 mini basketball\r\nlarge connect 4 game\r\n\r\nI have been able to introduce obstacle courses, building sessions and creative stations for PK-2 by using the items purchased with your donation. Their faces light up when they enter the gym and see all of the colorful items they get to manipulate. They arrive ready and eager to learn. Students seem more confident in their learning when not wasting time waiting in line for a turn to use a ball. My students are able to work on a skill immediately rather than wondering how long they have to wait for a turn. With the addition of much needed equipment, discipline issues have fallen dramatically as well.\r\n\r\nThe physical education students are not the only ones impacted by your gift to Getting Fit for the Future. The after school program has given praise for the new variety of equipment that we share. \r\n\r\nIn closing, the generous support of your donation makes it possible for my students to develop fine and gross skills needed for school and for life! Because of your kindness, our elementary and middle school students experienced a transformational event centered on mental wellness, self-care, and community connection.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment the materials arrived, our students were filled with excitement and curiosity. The vibrant art supplies, mindfulness tools, and interactive workshop materials turned our school gym into a safe, creative, and joyful space. One 6th grader lit up while sitting in the Calm Zone that I was able to add this year due to your donations. They said, \"We've never had a day like this in a long time just for our feelings. This is really cool.\"\r\n\r\nThe Wellchella Fair featured a variety of zones and activities made possible by your donations, including:\r\n\r\nA Creative Affirmation Station where students made self-affirmation art on canvases to take home and hang up in their rooms. \r\n\r\nA Movement & Mindfulness Zone with yoga mats and sensory-friendly items for grounding and reflection\r\n\r\nA Lego Station where students were able to use their creativity and learn how using your hands to build and create can be calming to the brain\r\n\r\nOne powerful moment came when a 4th-grade student shared their \"Wellness Walk\" poster—a reflection activity using footprints to represent past struggles and future goals. Their honesty sparked a circle conversation where peers respectfully listened and shared their own experiences. Your contribution helped create that space.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we're integrating the tools and materials from Wellchella into monthly classroom wellness lessons. Students will continue to use journaling kits, fidget tools, and creative prompts to explore topics like coping skills, empathy, and emotional regulation. We have also developed student-led \"Wellness Ambassador\" groups to sustain the fair's spirit throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our students didn't just learn about mental health—they experienced what it feels like to be supported, empowered, and celebrated. Your impact is lasting.","fullyFundedDate":1746787282715,"projectUrl":"project/2nd-annual-wellchella-youth-focused-me/9201141/","projectTitle":"2nd Annual \"Wellchella\" Youth Focused Mental Health and Wellness Fair","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tierra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9495090"},{"teacherId":9495090,"projectId":8273527,"letterContent":"I want to express my heart felt thank you for contributing to the first annual Wellchella Student-Led Mental Health Awareness Fair. The contribution of the donors made a huge impact in helping this initiative a major success. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and post pandemic, the mental health and well-being of youth has been a major concern. As a licensed clinical social worker and a school social worker in Baltimore City Public Schools, I work with a lot of students who experience a lot of different things that impact their mental health. From daily life stressors, school related concerns, family and/or community concerns, or events happening in the world, students are showing an increase in mental health challenges.\r\n\r\nThe goal of Wellchella Student -Led Mental Health Awareness Fair was to introduce youth in grades pre-k through 8th to different ways they can take care of their mental health. The vision of the event was to make strategies for taking care of your mental health accessible and equitable for kids, as adults are often the gatekeepers as to whether or not a young person can obtain mental health supports. Wellchella introduced the students to practical ways that they can maintain their mental health and wellness from a holistic perspective using the 8 dimensions of health and wellness. We had a gallery walk on all three floors of the school building in which middle school students did mini presentations on a mental health topic of their choosing. Student were then given passports with the logo of vendors (all representing one of the 8 dimension of health) and went around to each table where they were able to engage in a interactive learning experience. Student's were able to turn in their fully stamped passport for a wellness related prize such as a fidget. Students were also able to enjoy activities as a leggo stations, a coloring station, an aroma therapy station, and affirmation station, and a African drumming station. We had a Dj who played music to show how it impacted one's mental health and mood. We also had a fitness demonstration from our 2nd grade fitness club. Families were also able to participate and obtain resources and information about whole family wellness. The students gave positive feedback and expressed wanting us to do it again. Students were able to learn information that they use in both the classroom and at home to maintain their mental health. \r\n\r\nThe contribution of the donors will always be cherished and appreciated. As a school social worker, it is sometimes challenging to access funding to pull off some of the much needed initiatives to help support my students and families. I am thankful for the donors who found it in their hearts to support this cause. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nI","fullyFundedDate":1710949690210,"projectUrl":"project/wellchella-student-led-mental-health-aw/8273527/","projectTitle":"Wellchella: Student-Led Mental Health Awareness Fair","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tierra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9495090"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_68761","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":182,"numTeachers":11,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":100,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.0,"schoolId":68761,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about New Song Academy 322 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"New Song Academy 322","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/baltimore-city-public-school-district/new-song-academy-322/68761"}
