These materials have given my students wonderful opportunities to explore, build, and practice early reading skills in fun and meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nIn our STEM center, students work together to build towers, create different structures, and test what makes them strong or tall. In literacy centers, students practice letter recognition, matching sounds, and telling stories using pictures and manipulatives.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their eyes lit up with excitement. They could not wait to start exploring. One special moment was when a group of students worked together to build a very tall tower. They kept adding pieces and cheering each other on while testing if the tower would stay standing. Watching them collaborate, problem-solve, and celebrate their success was amazing.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these centers to take on new challenges. In STEM, they will try building bridges and creating structures that can hold different objects. One of our favorite activities has been building words with the magnetic letters and tiles. During one memorable moment, a student who has struggled with reading excitedly built and read a word independently for the first time his confidence and pride were incredible to see!\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to explore, asking questions and quickly engaging with the resources. What stood out most was how motivated they were to start learning right away. These tools made reading feel fun and approachable instead of stressful.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue to use these materials to deepen our literacy skills. Students will begin working on more complex word patterns and using the resources to support writing activities, such as creating their own stories and sharing them with classmates. So many individuals have been able to learn how to use art and journaling as a method of social/emotional growth and strategies. We have been using journals, colored pencils, and the other art supplies to help students in crisis and in need. The addition to the calming lighting atmosphere and breathing tools have been a huge hit to the students when then come into my room. One of the biggest impacts has been from the punching bag. Students, both in good moods and less, have used this as a form of physical activity. The students in crisis have utilized this significantly and with abundance. Helping students find what makes them comfortable to manage their emotions and impactful situations has a significant impact on their day-to-day. We have used the alternative seating, lighting, strategies, and even the punching bag to reduce the negative situations that students bring into my office.
