Thank you for going the extra mile to support our \"Going Green\" campaign. \r\n\r\nOur scholars and Green Team leads are truly grateful for your contributions.\r\nBecause of your kindness, we can now keep up with our supplies more easily. Thank you so much for the ability to grab a bin and go. That has been a game changer. We plan to add wheels to the bins to make transporting materials even simpler. Having a place for everything creates a sense of organization that helps scholars feel prepared without having to stop and retrieve items.\r\n\r\nThis opportunity has strengthened our work together. We can set goals for each session, review materials, pack up, and get straight to work. Your support has helped our team function smoothly, even on our busiest days. The abridged text allowed students to understand the main events and themes of the Great Depression without being overwhelmed. Images supported comprehension through visual context, helping students picture the setting, emotions, and challenges faced during this historical period. \"Dust for Dinner\" further deepened understanding by connecting making relatable the economic hardships and dust storms of the 1930s.\r\n In addition, these materials allowed for explicit vocabulary instruction and practice. By previewing and reinforcing key terms, such as \"drought,\" \"dust storm,\" and \"farmer\". Students developed the academic language needed to understand and discuss \"Out of the Dust\". The combination of simplified text, visuals, and guided discussion gave multilingual learners multiple ways to connect meaning to words. This approach also allowed teachers to highlight sensory and descriptive language, showing how authors use imagery to bring scenes to life. As students encountered similar language in \"Out of the Dust\", they were more prepared to interpret and explain it.\r\n Working in small groups to identify settings, characters, and key details gave multilingual learners the chance to apply new skills, vocabulary and comprehension strategies collaboratively. Peer interaction supported oral language development as students discussed and justified their ideas together. This inclusive approach promoted confidence, engagement, and belonging, as all students could meaningfully contribute regardless of language proficiency. Overall, using these scaffolded resources and group activities provided a supportive bridge into a complex text, fostering literacy growth and deepening students' connection to the content. Multilingual Learners were excited to read and learn with these addition supports.","fullyFundedDate":1746787288993,"projectUrl":"project/sttrong-readers-make-great-leaders/9283265/","projectTitle":"STtrong Readers Make Great Leaders","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alvarez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9546209_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720532405854","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9546209"},{"teacherId":9541530,"projectId":9206668,"letterContent":"Your donations will enhance my students learning throughout the year. With the new resources, our classroom has transformed into an engaging learning environment where students can interact with materials that make abstract concepts more tangible. One of the most memorable moments was when my students used the magnetic letters to practice sorting uppercase and lowercase letters. They eagerly picked up each letter, saying its name out loud and working together to find its match. This activity not only reinforced early literacy skills but also encouraged teamwork and confidence in recognizing letters. Similarly, when we introduced the new manipulatives for sorting living and non-living things, students enthusiastically discussed their observations, making connections between the classroom and the world outside.\r\n\r\nThe excitement and joy on my students' faces when they first saw the materials were truly priceless. They immediately began exploring, touching, and experimenting with the new resources, eager to see what they could create and discover. Whether they were bending pipe cleaners into different shapes or using hands-on materials to compare objects, their engagement was evident in their laughter and enthusiasm. These materials have provided opportunities for collaborative learning, where students not only explore individually but also share ideas and problem-solve together. Seeing their confidence grow as they manipulate objects, categorize items, and express their thoughts has been incredibly rewarding. The impact of these resources extends beyond just play; they are helping build essential cognitive and social skills that will benefit my students for years to come.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue to use these resources to deepen our exploration of the world through play. Our next steps include incorporating these materials into themed learning activities that encourage creativity and critical thinking. For example, we will be using our hands-on tools to create shape collages, build simple structures, and further explore the differences between living and non-living things through sensory experiences. As we progress, these materials will help us expand on topics like nature, community, and storytelling, allowing students to engage with learning in meaningful and enjoyable ways. Your generous support has made all of this possible, and we are beyond grateful for the lasting impact you have had on our classroom. Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to learn, discover, and grow in such a fun and engaging way!","fullyFundedDate":1735949654059,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-the-world-through-play-prek/8739348/","projectTitle":"Exploring The World Through Play “PreK Edition”","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sierra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9729959"},{"teacherId":9546209,"projectId":8402415,"letterContent":"First, thank you for your patience waiting for this letter. I had a life changing family crisis to attend to in the past month. I appreciate your understanding.\r\n\r\nMy Multilingual students are making huge strides thanks to your support. My students are learning to build vocabulary and grammatical structures using context clues from the images combined with the text. Sentence frames for common structures are practiced using a variety of vocabulary allowing for multiple applications orally and in writing. \r\n\r\nStudents have an opportunity to read as a whole group, in small groups, and independently. Students respond to comprehension questions that show comprehension of a variety of literary elements (from characters and settings to cause and effect). Lessons are planned according to the English Proficiency Level ans skill the students need to learn in that level. \r\n\r\nStudents have been enjoying the stories. At first, the story seemed confusing, but as the students began understanding the skills they began to understand the story. I won't forget the face of the young man who started laughing as we read \"Bone: Eye of the Storm\" and he realized one of the Bones was trying to get the chicken to lay eggs because the culture used poultry as currency. He saw those hens sitting at a candle lit dinner and read \"I'm going to be rich\", and burst out laughing. I asked him to explain what he thought was funny and he said \"Chickens make mas eggs more money\" and started laughing again. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for bringing this moment and many others to my classroom.
