They are learning to think in a new technological medium, translating ideas from sketches and measurements into physical objects they can hold, test, and improve. This hands-on experience has deepened their understanding of math concepts such as ratios, scale, and measurement, while also helping them examine our city's history through architectural modeling and design. What once lived only on paper or screens now comes to life in their hands.\r\n\r\nThe impact has extended beyond academics and into our school community. Students have used the printers for meaningful service and fundraising efforts. Before winter break, they created small 3D printed gifts for lower elementary students as holiday surprises. Currently, they are designing and producing Valentine-themed prints to sell as a fundraiser to support a classmate whose family recently lost their home and belongings in a house fire. These projects have allowed students to see how their skills can be used to help others, building empathy, purpose, and pride alongside technical knowledge.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in the classroom is tangible. Students are eager to experiment, collaborate, problem-solve, and share their creations. The printers have sparked curiosity in students who may not have previously seen themselves as \"technical\" or \"creative,\" giving them a new way to shine and contribute.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of the Computer Science and JMG classes at Waterville Junior High School in Waterville, Maine, thank you for believing in our students and investing in their learning. Your support has brought joy, inspiration, and opportunity into our classroom in ways we could not have imagined.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful for your generosity and excited to continue discovering all the ways these tools will shape our students' futures.\r\n\r\nWith our sincere appreciation,\r\nThe Computer Science and JMG Classes of The Waterville Junior High School\r\nWaterville, Maine","fullyFundedDate":1763585589712,"projectUrl":"project/wjhs-3d-printers-for-steam-projects/9854826/","projectTitle":"WJHS 3D Printers for STEAM projects","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brennan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5771496_orig.jpg?crop=2544,2544,x0,y424&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761223389708","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5771496"},{"teacherId":8441505,"projectId":6908233,"letterContent":"We are so excited to be using the new resources in our classroom! One of the most impactful additions has been the new whiteboard and general classroom supplies. Recently, we worked on a project exploring the water cycle. Using the whiteboard, students sketched out each stage—evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection—and labeled key processes as we discussed them. It became an interactive space where students could come up, draw diagrams, solve problems, and share their ideas with the class.\r\n\r\nThe new classroom supplies have also made a big difference. With fresh markers, plenty of tape, and post its, students were able to create detailed water cycle illustrations and even design their own mini-experiments to observe evaporation and condensation. It's been wonderful to see their creativity and understanding grow with the right materials in hand.\r\n\r\nThis hands-on experience really brought the water cycle to life, and students were not only engaged but proud to share their work. One of the most exciting projects we've embarked on is exploring the science of sound waves. Using the new speakers, students experimented with different frequencies and observed how sound waves can actually move small objects. For example, during a recent lesson, we placed tiny bits of paper and salt on a thin surface, and students were amazed to watch them jump and shift as the speakers emitted various tones. It was a fantastic hands-on way to see sound in action!\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their eyes lit up with curiosity. Many of them had never seen sound visualized like that before, and it sparked a lot of questions and excitement for learning. They couldn't wait to get started, and it turned into an engaging experiment filled with discovery and awe.\r\n\r\nNext, we plan to expand this project by experimenting with different materials and observing how sound waves affect each one. We'll also be diving deeper into the concepts of frequency, amplitude, and resonance, connecting these observations to real-world technologies like speakers and musical instruments.
