My 16 students were thrilled when the boxes arrived. The Kapla blocks are located in the building studio, and that has become a very popular spot! The blocks also came with an illustrated book giving ideas for what you might build. \r\n My class is working on a unit called Building Strong Communities. During studio time, we have been using the Kapla blocks to build our own community. We have a school, a hospital, a toy store, and much more. They have even devised a way of creating roads and traffic signs with cardboard and tape! Our imaginations are firing at full capacity! I especially love these blocks because they are plain and all shaped alike, so to build interesting structures, they must use their brains. They have been challenging themselves to build the tallest tower (the tallest so far was 40 stories). \r\n My students have been enjoying this gift so much. We spend hours outdoors now with our climbing, spinning, swinging, and singing needs being met because of your generosity.\r\n\r\nWith the help of volunteers and staff we installed the swing frames and had the tear drop seats up in less than an hour of their arrival at the school. These swings have brought joy to several students who get more centered by twisting and swaying, one child spent over an hour in the swing and was the calmest version of himself I have seen.\r\n\r\nThe instruments bring great collaboration and creativity to our Sit spot woods, and nature playgrounds. One set we installed in a music wall and the second travels with us as we explore the woods. \r\n\r\nWe have 50 students using these resources daily, and because we are a public space, more use it on weekends and evenings with their families.
