They've been learning about the symphonic story Carnival of the Animals for weeks now and last week they got to watch a full length animated version! Students colored their tickets the week before, got to choose a fancy outfit to wear, and even got to bring a guest stuffed animal. When students showed up, I took their tickets and invited them to choose a seat in the symphony hall. Fortunately, my fun seating options had arrived the week before! So, students got an extra treat being able to choose their seat in the hall - a total surprise that included folding chairs and fun cushions! The students were so excited to make their choice. \r\n\r\nEvery day in music, I give students time to work independently on the concept we're practicing that day. Having these seating options gives students a fun way to play hands on with their materials. I've already noticed students having greater engagement in their activities and even seeming to have greater accountability in how they put away materials since they understand they are responsible for a choice they made. It's been wonderful to see as a teacher! I feel like the chairs have helped make a classroom I would've loved as a kid! I am so glad my students get to experience autonomy and choice as they learn about music. \r\n\r\nAs I continue to grow as a teacher, I hope to add even more playful materials and games for students, so they can experience music in as many ways as possible. \r\n\r\nThank you for making a joyful, playful, and memorable classroom experience possible for my students!","fullyFundedDate":1774811314375,"projectUrl":"project/the-playful-music-room/10167920/","projectTitle":"The Playful Music Room","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Weiser","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10469548_orig.jpg?crop=2661,2661,x0,y383&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1774365716467","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10469548"},{"teacherId":8935783,"projectId":9792285,"letterContent":"This STEAM project in my 5th-grade classes, where students designed their own board games in small teams, was a remarkable success. This project challenged students to integrate creativity, 3D printing technology, digital graphic design, and critical thinking to bring their original game concepts to life. Throughout the process, students demonstrated impressive problem-solving skills and innovation, applying their knowledge in practical and engaging ways. The hands-on experience with 3D printing and graphic design tools not only enhanced their technical skills but also deepened their understanding of how these technologies can be used in real-world applications.\r\n\r\nWhat excites me most about this project is the valuable collaboration techniques students developed. They learned how to effectively divide complex tasks among team members, including designing custom 3D printed components, mapping intricate game board layouts, and crafting clear, comprehensive game instructions. This teamwork fostered communication, responsibility, and mutual support, which are essential skills beyond the classroom. \r\n\r\nAlthough we faced challenges such as game board malfunctions and failed 3D prints, these setbacks became important learning opportunities. Embracing failure as a natural part of the STEAM process encouraged resilience and iterative improvement, reinforcing that persistence and adaptability are key to success in any creative endeavor.","fullyFundedDate":1768400651306,"projectUrl":"project/design-print-play-a-board-game-creati/9792285/","projectTitle":"Design, Print, Play: A Board Game Creation Project","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Meg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8935783_orig.jpg?crop=450,451,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1674493973117","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8935783"},{"teacherId":1554316,"projectId":9894677,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity. Now, we have our books organized by reading level on the new cart, and it is at an appropriate heigh for students to reach easily. They also have been helping organize our new books on there as well!
