For many of my students, traditional classroom settings can become overwhelming due to sensory processing challenges, emotional regulation needs, or difficulty focusing. The sensory room offers a safe, calming space where they can take a break, reset, and return to learning more focused and ready to engage. Whether it's through calming lights, tactile tools, or quiet space for reflection, this room helps meet their individual needs in a way that words alone often can't.\r\n\r\nSince adding the sensory room, I've seen noticeable improvements in behavior, emotional regulation, and overall classroom atmosphere. Students are more independent in recognizing when they need a break, and they return from the room calmer and more prepared to participate. It's also become a trusted space, not just for those with specific sensory needs, but for any student needing a moment of peace or support. The room has helped foster a classroom culture rooted in understanding, empathy, and inclusivity.","fullyFundedDate":1739988648294,"projectUrl":"project/creating-calm-a-sensory-room-for-enhanc/9103951/","projectTitle":"Creating Calm: a Sensory Room for Enhanced Well-Being","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ponder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3417219_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738952190036","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3417219"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17022","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":410,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":50,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":28.6,"schoolId":17022,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Riser Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Riser Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/ouachita-parish-school-district/riser-middle-school/17022"}
