When the new paints and brushes arrived, my students' faces lit up with excitement. Many of them had never had access to high-quality materials like these before, and they were eager to dive right in. It was heartwarming to see their pride as they carefully selected brushes and colors to bring their ideas to life. \r\n\r\nWe immediately put the supplies to use for our upcoming Moana Jr. production, creating vibrant set pieces and detailed props that truly transformed our stage. Students worked together to design tropical scenery and colorful costume accessories for our performance of Moana Jr. Not only did this give them hands-on artistic experience, but it also strengthened their teamwork, imagination, and confidence in their skills. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these materials will continue to fuel our creative projects throughout the years. Students are already brainstorming ideas for future performances. Your support didn't just help with one show - it's sparking a lasting love of art, collaboration, and theatre magic. Your contributions have transformed not only our production but also the entire experience for my students, creating unforgettable moments of creativity and learning.\r\n\r\nWith your help, we were able to acquire black lights, glow-in-the-dark paint, masks, and essential tools that brought magic to our scenes. The black lights illuminated key parts of our production, particularly the mystical \"Realm of Monsters\" scenes and night settings. As you can see in the photos, the fluorescent paint and masks came to life under the glow, capturing the essence of Polynesian artistry while highlighting the students' creativity. Students learned to design and paint masks that glowed brilliantly, and they couldn't contain their excitement seeing their artwork shine so vibrantly on stage.\r\n\r\nThis project has had a profound impact on our class. Beyond the performance itself, students gained hands-on experience with special effects, set design, and prop-making. They developed valuable problem-solving, collaboration, and technical skills throughout this process. Watching them take ownership of their roles—whether on stage, painting masks, or adjusting the lights—has been nothing short of inspiring.\r\n\r\nYour contributions helped provide resources to students, many of whom come from low-income backgrounds, allowing them to produce a high-level, student-led show that they can truly be proud of. The pride on their faces and their heartfelt \"thank you\" messages (pictured) reflect the joy and growth this experience has brought them. You have made it possible for these young artists to dream big, work hard, and fall in love with the performing arts.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in us and for giving my students an opportunity to shine—both on and off the stage.","fullyFundedDate":1726760178817,"projectUrl":"project/lighting-up-moana-jr-black-lights-and/8689064/","projectTitle":"Lighting Up Moana Jr.: Black Lights and Theatre Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mansell CdeBaca","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9691259_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724116626321","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k-cdebaca"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_104128","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":951,"numTeachers":54,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":84,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":61.0,"schoolId":104128,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lake Charles Charter Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lake Charles Charter Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/louisiana-state-board-of-elementary-and-secondary-education/lake-charles-academy-cs/104128"}
