You would've thought it was a holiday. They were so excited to see healthy snacks and flavored drink mixes just for them. I explained that these came from generous donors who wanted to support our classroom community, and you could see the pride in their faces knowing someone cared enough to give to them. It was such a special moment — one student even said, \"They did this for us?!\"\r\n\r\nWe've been using these snacks to keep our energy up during reading groups, writing workshops, and long test prep days. It's amazing how something as simple as a granola bar or flavored water can reset their focus and keep spirits high. The students now call it our \"brain fuel,\" and they've been more engaged and motivated during our ELA lessons because they don't have to worry about being hungry or tired.\r\n\r\nOur next step is diving into our current writing unit, where students are creating personal narratives that connect to real-life experiences. These snacks have turned into a little incentive system — helping them stay on task and celebrate milestones in their writing process. I'm so grateful for your kindness; it's truly made our classroom feel supported, cared for, and ready to keep learning with full hearts (and full bellies).","fullyFundedDate":1746787231444,"projectUrl":"project/fuel-for-success-snacks-to-power-our-te/9221304/","projectTitle":"Fuel for Success: Snacks to Power Our Test-Takers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9617269_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746792782028","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9617269"},{"teacherId":9617269,"projectId":8533816,"letterContent":"As an 8th grade English Language Arts (ELA) teacher, I've seen firsthand how technology can transform my students' learning experiences, especially those from lower-income backgrounds. Many of my students don't have access to books, internet, or even quiet spaces at home to complete their homework or engage with reading. With the introduction of tablets, e-books, and online reading programs in the classroom, they now have access to a wealth of literature and learning materials at their fingertips. These tools allow students to read and annotate texts digitally, explore interactive reading activities, and even participate in virtual book clubs, giving them opportunities they may not have had otherwise.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is the way technology makes reading and writing feel more interactive and relevant. For instance, using apps that let them write and publish their work online, or explore multimedia storytelling, has ignited a new sense of enthusiasm in many of them. They're excited to share their projects with classmates, and many have even started to take more pride in their work. By having access to tools like grammar checkers, speech-to-text applications, and collaborative writing platforms, students who previously struggled with writing and language mechanics are now empowered to improve their skills at their own pace, without feeling embarrassed or discouraged.\r\n\r\nWhat's been especially rewarding is seeing how certain students have really flourished with the new technology. Students who may have once been disengaged with traditional reading methods are now excited to dive into novels, short stories, and poetry through digital platforms. Some of my most reluctant readers have found a love for reading through audiobooks or interactive digital texts that bring the stories to life. Additionally, students who are English language learners or have learning disabilities have benefited greatly from tools that provide text-to-speech, translations, and visual aids to help them better understand and analyze complex texts. It's been amazing to watch their confidence grow as they become more comfortable with technology and more successful in their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1734195171921,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-futures-invest-in-the-succes/8533816/","projectTitle":"Empowering Futures: Invest in the Success of Our Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9617269_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746792782028","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9617269"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_108193","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":744,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":90,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.3,"schoolId":108193,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Advantage Charter Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Advantage Charter Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/louisiana-state-board-of-elementary-and-secondary-education/advantage-charter-school/108193"}
