In our special education classroom students can often get overwhelmed and need an outlet, the items from this project help with that! When students complete an educational task, they can choose a variety of activities as an incentive or as we sometimes call it a \"brain break\"...some of these choices include sensory bins like the sand or floam. \r\nSome of my students need different outlets for sensory integration, especially involving movement, the bouncy board and the spinning seat are perfect for these students! They love to bounce or spin. They can typically have a few minutes of free movement and then are able to transition back to a small group or whole group learning activity. Sometimes a student might even need to have the bounce board at their desk, and that is okay because it allows them to address their motor needs and pay attention to my lesson. \r\n\r\nWhen our items arrived in the classroom, my students were SO excited. One even said \"It's like Christmas!\". When the items arrived, we slowly introduced them, set expectations, and discussed when and how we would use them within our daily routines. \r\n \r\nWe will continue using these items and we look forward to continuing the school year with a fun, positive, sensory filled learning environment!\r\n\r\nA HUGE thank you to all of the individuals who have made it possible for me and my paraprofessionals to create a comfortable and safe space for all of our kiddos!","fullyFundedDate":1758909109966,"projectUrl":"project/building-calm-and-focus-sensory-tools-f/9753723/","projectTitle":"Building Calm and Focus: Sensory Tools for Special Needs Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Meyers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8430946"},{"teacherId":10026911,"projectId":9738807,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our class project and helping bring meaningful, hands-on learning experiences to our students. Because of your generosity, our classroom has been able to use manipulatives with our light tables, including translucent pebbles, translucent shape pieces, 3-D printer filament, and other building materials that have truly transformed the way our students learn. These materials have supported critical learning skills such as problem-solving, spatial awareness, fine motor development, creativity, and collaboration. As students build and explore, they are learning to plan, test ideas, make adjustments, and communicate their thinking. The light tables have strengthened visual discrimination, color recognition, and early math concepts such as shapes, patterns, symmetry, and early science exploration.\r\n\r\nWe have also used the 3-D printer filament to create hands-on manipulatives, parts, and pieces for our dramatic play area. These custom-made materials allow us to directly connect student play to our classroom studies and curriculum themes. By using familiar objects and study-related materials, students are able to engage in deeper role play, storytelling, and problem-solving while reinforcing academic concepts across content areas. Most importantly, these tools help bridge the gap between abstract and concrete thinking. Students are able to see, touch, build, and manipulate materials in ways that make learning accessible and meaningful. Many students who struggle with traditional instructional formats have shown increased engagement, independence, and confidence when learning through these hands-on experiences.\r\n\r\nThe joy and excitement in our classroom have been incredible. Students are eager to explore, ask questions, and proudly share their creations. Your generosity has made a lasting educational impact, and we are so grateful for your support and belief in our students. Because of you, our students now have organizational trays, recordable buttons, and a wonderful collection of books that have made a meaningful difference in our daily learning.\r\n\r\nThe organizational trays have helped us keep student work and learning choices neat, accessible, and easy for little hands to manage. This has encouraged independence, responsibility, and smoother transitions throughout the day. Our students take pride in being able to find their materials, make choices, and clean up on their own.\r\n\r\nThe recordable buttons have been an incredible tool for supporting independent learning. We use them for directions, literacy activities, and center work, allowing students to listen, respond, and engage at their own pace. These buttons have been especially helpful in building confidence, supporting diverse learning needs, and giving students ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nWe are also deeply thankful for the books you provided: Bear Says Thanks, the Bear and Friends Board Book Set, Bonaparte Falls Apart, and Pete the Cat: Construction Destruction. These books were thoughtfully integrated into our learning studies and center activities. They sparked meaningful conversations, supported social-emotional learning, encouraged problem-solving, and inspired creativity during both whole-group lessons and independent centers. The stories helped our students make real-world connections while building literacy skills in an engaging and developmentally appropriate way.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a classroom environment that is organized, inviting, and rich in hands-on, meaningful learning experiences. Many of my students have access to iPads or other style tablet devices in the home that they are familiar with and can easily operate, so the iPad allows them to complete assignments, take educational brain breaks, and become a little more independent in their classroom work. With the implementation of the device, they have a little bit more freedom of where and how they can work within our special education classroom. \r\nWe have just begun the introduction to the device in our daily routine and are teaching rules, routines, and procedures with it. My staff and I want to make sure the students do not think of the device as a toy, but as a learning tool. We have practiced using it to log into and work on programs used district wide as well as using it to explore ELA and Math learning games. So far, my students are enjoying the device and responding well to its introduction into the classroom. \r\nMy hope is that next school year the device will continue to be a valuable resource to students and allow them to meet their educational needs. The modified curriculum platform that I use within my classroom can be accessed via the device and students will be able to complete activities on the iPad versus having to cut and paste on a paper version. I am excited to watch my students continue to grow and learn and appreciate the opportunity to give them alternative ways to access their education!","fullyFundedDate":1739371107114,"projectUrl":"project/special-education-technology-upgrade/9104536/","projectTitle":"Special Education Technology Upgrade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Meyers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8430946"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_98928","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":703,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":33,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"22.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":51.2,"schoolId":98928,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Fork Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Fork Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/livingston-parish-school-dist/south-fork-elementary/98928"}
