We have been using the light table during small group activities and centers for tracing, shape design, and sensory exploration. Students have practiced writing and drawing on tracing paper, which has been wonderful for strengthening fine motor and visual-motor skills. We have also used the translucent tiles to create geometric designs and patterns, and students enjoy using pinchers and scoops to move jewels and other materials during sensory bins. These activities help students build important foundational skills while staying engaged and curious.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the light table, the excitement was immediate. The very first thing they discovered was that they could change the color of the light (and one kiddo gasped, \"It's magic!\"). Soon they were experimenting to see how the translucent jewels and tiles looked under each color. The table quickly turned into a space for experimentation, creativity, and collaboration as students compared colors, arranged shapes, and showed their designs to friends.\r\n\r\nStudents are beginning to create more complex visual-motor designs with geometric shapes, practice tracing letters and pictures, and explore sorting and patterning activities with the translucent manipulatives. The materials you helped provide are giving students new ways to explore, create, and build important classroom skills. Your generosity has truly made a difference in our classroom, and we are so grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1767316811177,"projectUrl":"project/learning-in-a-whole-new-light/9970022/","projectTitle":"Learning in a Whole New Light","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jenna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3365677_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766409882900","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jennavirgo"},{"teacherId":9824012,"projectId":9426543,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity and support. Because of you, my students are now using sensory materials like Play-Doh, kinetic sand, exercise balls, and a parachute during their speech and language therapy sessions. These tools have made such a meaningful difference in our classroom. I've seen students stay engaged longer, feel more regulated, and participate more confidently as we work on skills like requesting, turn-taking, following directions, and using complete sentences. One especially memorable moment was watching a student who typically struggles to attend remain focused for an entire session while excitedly practicing language while using a sensory exercise peanut ball.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions said it all—big smiles, excited pointing, and spontaneous language filled the room. Several students who are usually hesitant to participate were immediately drawn in and eager to try the new activities. The sensory items created an instant sense of excitement and comfort, helping students feel safe, motivated, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these materials will continue to support our work on higher-level language skills like storytelling, sequencing, and social communication. Students will use the sensory tools to retell stories, describe steps, and engage in cooperative group activities that build both language and connection. Your kindness has truly transformed our sessions, and I am so grateful for the positive impact you've made on my students' learning and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1758830401141,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-speech-therapy/9426543/","projectTitle":"Sensory & Speech Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Taylor (Speech)","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9824012_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730505871473","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9824012"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15111","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":786,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":31,"percentWhite":43,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"20.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":45.7,"schoolId":15111,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Paul J Solis Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Paul J Solis Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/jefferson-parish-schools/paul-j-solis-elementary-school/15111"}
