I started working with a few fourth and fifth-graders on basic percussion skills - then started accompanying them on guitar to play a few simple holiday songs. They are LOVING it - and it is so exciting to see them enthusiastic about learning new instruments. We are hoping to do a holiday showcase during lunchtime one day so the entire school can hear our progress. In the meantime, the students are loving it when neighboring teachers stop by to see what is going on.... and tell them how great they sound. Being in a portable classroom with a loud AC and positioned right next to the field where PE classes are held, it was difficult for my students to hear each other when they were speaking. Using the boards, students have recorded their thoughts on specific equations and explained their thinking to a partner. The combination of hands-on tools and quick erase-and-try-again practice has made our math units so much more interactive and successful.\r\n\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled when they saw the fraction tiles and the new dry-erase boards. Several of them immediately asked, \"Are we using these today?\" They were excited to touch, sort, and explore the manipulatives, and a few even started creating their own fraction models before we have even begun the unit! It felt like opening a box of possibilities — they couldn't wait to dive in. I cannot wait to see their explorations as we get to the unit.","fullyFundedDate":1757511694438,"projectUrl":"project/fun-fractions/9679733/","projectTitle":"Fun Fractions","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Couvillon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6931435"},{"teacherId":10171656,"projectId":9580526,"letterContent":"The Finch 2.0 robots have increased my students' motivation to learn. As they walk into the room, their eyes light up when they spy the Finches laid out next to the computers. If the robots are not working as expected, problem solving skills go into overtime as students work on debugging their codes. Leadership skills are observed as students come to the aid of others in need of assistance. They have programmed the robots to move in different directions and to draw various shapes. Soon they will program the Finches to flash multiple LED lights and to make sounds. \r\nThe Finch 2.0 robots are a hands-on learning tool that have exposed my students to a STEM curriculum.
