When the crayons, glue, scissors, and paper arrived, they were genuinely excited. You would have thought it was a box of toys. They immediately started talking about what they wanted to make and asked if we could start an art or writing project that same day.\r\n\r\nWe've been using these supplies during our daily centers, writing projects, and hands-on science activities. One standout moment was when students created \"All About Me\" books at the beginning of a new unit. They wrote and illustrated each page using their own materials, which helped them take more ownership and pride in their work. The bright colors and clean supplies made everything feel fresh and exciting. It also helped us avoid the time lost to broken crayons, dried-out glue, or students waiting to share scissors.\r\n\r\nNext, we're beginning a classroom project that combines writing and art. Students will research an animal and create a mini book with facts, drawings, and diagrams. Because of your support, every student will be able to work at their own pace with the materials they need. Thank you for giving them that opportunity and for investing in the simple supplies that have such a big impact.","fullyFundedDate":1666806700752,"projectUrl":"project/thriving-and-supplying/6564995/","projectTitle":"Thriving and Supplying","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Woods","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2801068_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1564949467027","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2801068"},{"teacherId":2801068,"projectId":7109363,"letterContent":"When the new school supplies arrived, my students lit up. There's something special about having fresh pencils, crayons, glue sticks, and notebooks that makes students feel ready to learn. We were able to stock our writing center, refresh individual supply bins, and replace worn-out materials that had been used heavily since the beginning of the year. One of the most helpful additions was new dry-erase markers and erasers—students use them daily for small group work and independent practice, and having reliable tools makes a big difference in how smoothly those lessons run.\r\n\r\nThese materials helped us dive deeper into our current writing and math units without worrying about who had what. Students were able to focus on the content instead of asking for missing supplies or making do with broken tools. We recently completed a mini-book project where each student created their own story, complete with illustrations. The excitement around using fresh markers and colorful paper showed in their creativity and effort. Next, we'll be moving into a science unit that involves drawing diagrams and writing observations, and we're well-prepared thanks to your support.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us keep learning strong throughout the school year. Your generosity made it easier for my students to feel equipped, valued, and ready to do their best work every day.","fullyFundedDate":1680377173670,"projectUrl":"project/the-tank-is-empty-can-we-get-a-refill/7109363/","projectTitle":"The Tank is Empty - Can We Get a Refill?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Woods","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2801068_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1564949467027","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2801068"},{"teacherId":2801068,"projectId":5747803,"letterContent":"When the cleaning supplies and snack box arrived, it brought such a sense of relief and comfort to our classroom. The students were excited to see the individual wipes, sprays, and hand sanitizers because it showed that we were taking their health seriously. Being able to clean desks regularly and keep our space sanitized helped create a sense of safety during a very uncertain time. The snack box was equally important—many students come to school without enough to eat, and having access to snacks made it easier for them to focus and stay engaged throughout the day.\r\n\r\nThese supplies helped us maintain consistency in our routines and reduced the number of disruptions due to illness or hunger. Students were able to stay in class and concentrate on learning instead of worrying about being hungry or whether their space was clean. The peace of mind this project gave us made a real difference in the tone and rhythm of our day. Now that things are beginning to feel more normal again, we're able to shift more energy toward academics, knowing the basics are being taken care of.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our classroom in such a practical and meaningful way. These items were more than just supplies—they were a daily reminder to my students that people care about their well-being.","fullyFundedDate":1632408007166,"projectUrl":"project/germs-germs-go-away/5747803/","projectTitle":"Germs, Germs, Go Away!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Woods","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2801068_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1564949467027","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2801068"},{"teacherId":2801068,"projectId":4353330,"letterContent":"When the journals and math manipulatives arrived, my students could hardly contain their excitement. They were so proud to have their own journals—some even asked if they could take them home to keep writing after school! We jumped right in with a creative writing activity where students wrote short stories based on a photo prompt. It was amazing to see their imaginations come alive on paper, and the journals gave them a sense of ownership over their work.\r\n\r\nIn math centers, the manipulatives have been a game changer. One moment that stood out was during a lesson on place value. Students used base-ten blocks to build numbers and explain their thinking to their classmates. It led to some great peer teaching and \"light bulb\" moments that wouldn't have happened without the hands-on tools.\r\n\r\nNext, we're starting a writing project where students will create their own short storybooks. The journals are helping them brainstorm, draft, and revise their ideas before transferring them to final books. In math, we'll continue using the manipulatives as we move into addition and subtraction strategies. These resources have made learning more interactive and meaningful, and I'm so grateful to our donors for making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1571923623696,"projectUrl":"project/master-manipulators-of-math-and-writing/4353330/","projectTitle":"Master Manipulators of Math and Writing","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Woods","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2801068_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1564949467027","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2801068"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17214","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":121,"numTeachers":7,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":100,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"17.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":43.5,"schoolId":17214,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about J.
