Students make predictions, use context clues to figure out unfamiliar words, describe characters and how they change, and find evidence to support their answers. They are learning to explain how they know something about a story, which helps them become stronger readers and writers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom includes time to read independently, talk about ideas with classmates (my favorite part), and share what we notice in a text. It is especially rewarding to see students who have been hesitant to read find a book that catches their attention. When a student chooses to keep reading or wants to tell a friend about a book, I know that book is making a difference.\r\n\r\nBooks have always held a special meaning for me. When I was a child, books allowed me to escape the trauma I experienced daily at home. Through stories, I could become a heroine, an adventurer, or a princess, if only for a moment. I hope all of my students are safe and living good lives, but the reality is that some of them may not be. I hope they can find their own moments of escape, comfort, and possibility within the pages of a book. \r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students more opportunities to practice, explore, and enjoy reading. My students recently completed their second social studies test, and I saw noticeable improvement in both their test scores and their written responses. They are using more accurate information, explaining their thinking more clearly, and showing greater confidence in what they have learned.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were genuinely excited. Several shared that they were tired of having only their study guides to read each day, so they were thrilled to receive colorful, interesting reading materials that they could explore at school and take home. Their excitement reminded me how meaningful it is for students to have access to resources that make learning feel fresh and engaging.\r\n\r\nOur next project will be learning how to transform each Studies Weekly publication into an interactive notebook. The project was funded toward the end of the previous school year, and then came the long wait through the summer. We were so excited to know that this much-needed equipment was on its way to our school and would be available for the beginning of the new school year. When it finally arrived, it was more than just a new piece of equipment, it was a resource that immediately helped us address an important need.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, we can now securely shred documents containing sensitive student information instead of having to depend on less efficient alternatives. They loved having the supplies needed to make their work colorful, organized, and meaningful. The materials helped them view their notebooks as something valuable, a record of their progress that belongs to them.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue expanding the notebooks into yearlong learning tools. I teach two 5th grade classes, and students switch classrooms throughout the day. Because students cannot take their classroom workbooks home or leave materials in their desks or lockers, having a designated place to store their materials is essential. \r\n\r\nBefore having these organizers, misplaced workbooks and papers could interrupt valuable instructional time. If a student could not locate a book or assignment, I would have to stop teaching to help search for the missing material or print another copy. The organizers have helped eliminate many of those interruptions. Students now know exactly where their materials belong and can quickly retrieve what they need when class begins. This allows us to spend more time learning and less time searching for supplies. \r\n\r\nThe students were especially exited to have their own designated space. It gives them a sense of ownership and responsibility while also providing a system that helps them be successful. Students are less likely to receive a negative notification home for being unprepared. The mailbox organizer has also strengthened my communications with families. \r\n\r\nThese organizers may seem like simple classroom supplies but they have become an important part of our classroom routine. They save instructional time, reduce lost material, encourage student responsibility, and allow our classroom transitions to run much more smoothly. Some of the assessments are timed and using the chromebook's mousepad can be very time wasting for students using their fingers. This new printer is wireless, so it connects to multiple computers; it will print on the front and back, so it does not waste as much paper; we can print in black and white AND color; and it is not only a printer but also a copier. \r\n I as the librarian have already printed our accelerated reader certificates for the students, STAR Reading Test reports for parents, and our library newsletter for our bulletin board. The students have printed their infographic projects they created in Canva. I will put these on a bulletin board to show the whole school what design skills they learned in Canva and for others to learn about their likes, dislikes, and hobbies. Students can also now print pictures in color that they need for projects, such as biography projects that fifth graders create every year. They are learning to use online encyclopedias, like World Book Online, to do research. This printer is so helpful and will be for years to come.
