The chair bands provide a quiet and controlled outlet for movement, helping students stay seated and focused during lessons. The sight word cards and popper mats have turned literacy and math practice into engaging, hands-on experiences. Students are now blending sounds, segmenting words, and practicing number recognition with enthusiasm and confidence.\r\n\r\nStudent Reactions:\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement. Many of them immediately began exploring the popper mats and sight word games, eager to dive into learning. For students who often struggle with focus or anxiety, these tools have offered comfort and empowerment.\r\n\r\nNext Steps in Our Learning Journey:\r\nCurrently, we're working on a phonics-based reading unit, and the sight word cards are helping students build fluency and comprehension. The popper mats are being used to reinforce sound blending and basic math operations. As we move forward, these resources will continue to support differentiated instruction, allowing each student to learn at their own pace and in their own way.\r\nYour support has helped create a more inclusive, flexible, and joyful classroom. Our fifth graders are using these LYRC books to prepare for their Battle of the Books. Battle of the Books happens in April as a part of the ArtBreak Festival. We are looking forward to returning for our third year in the competition. Battle has five rounds: short film, puzzle, baffler, multiple-choice, and essay. To prepare, we begin by having book talk groups for the four LYRC books that are chapter books for the Battle. Each group member will read a book, follow a schedule, take notes, and discuss it once a week with their group, trying to finish the book in a month. We are starting with a group of 25 fifth graders who showed interest in the Battle (There were more interested! I had to select the most dedicated students for the exclusive group.). Eventually we will narrow that 25 down to our team of six. Many of these students have never been in a \"book club\" before, so they are excited about the new experience. \r\nAll the grades will be reading some of the LYRC books in class, that teach a variety of topics. Some of the books the students will read in small groups, separately, in our library enrichment classes. Some of the books I will read aloud to the enrichment classes. One of my favorites so far from the 2025-26 titles is the inspirational and funny Moving the Millers' Minnie Moore Mine Mansion, a true story set in Idaho about a determined family that is down on their luck. They are given the choice to either leave their beloved house or leave their beloved pigs they are raising. Instead, they create a solution to move their house out of town to an area where laws allow them to keep their pigs. The house still stands in Idaho today. Another title, Heroic Heart: The Legacy of a Professional Football Player, is the bittersweet, true story of Joe Delaney. I did not know about the football star of Northwestern State University and the Kansas City Chiefs, but he was raised so close to us- in Haughton, LA! It tells the story of his life and the tale of how he sacrificed his life to save those of children who were drowning. These are just some of the books we will be reading through the literature you have donated.\r\n After reading the LYRC books, the students will get to vote on their favorite one. Students across Louisiana will vote by May 1 to decide the favorite LYRC book of 2025-2026. We will celebrate all our reading accomplishments at the end of the year. Thank you for making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1746787168595,"projectUrl":"project/2025-26-louisiana-young-reader-choice-bo/9129969/","projectTitle":"2025-26 Louisiana Young Reader Choice Books for Broncos!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thibodeaux","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8559983_orig.jpg?crop=1404,1404,x78,y375&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723226282238","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8559983"},{"teacherId":10006021,"projectId":9282999,"letterContent":"The addition of a mobile standing desk, new books for our class library, and activity books designed to strengthen critical thinking skills has transformed the way my students learn and engage with content. This flexibility means I can provide support exactly when and where students need it, helping them feel seen and supported. \r\n\r\nThe books in our class library have sparked excitement for reading, giving students access to high-interest, age-appropriate stories that encourage them to explore new worlds and ideas. The activity books have provided opportunities for me to challenge the students to think more deeply about what they are learning.\r\n\r\nThe mobile desk has improved both my teaching and my students' ability to stay engaged. \r\n\r\nStudents are especially excited to have a choice in their learning—whether it's selecting a book that speaks to them (the Harry Potter series)or completing a challenging activity. Many students were amazed and couldn't believe we had something so sleek and cool. They were unaware of how much it has improved the safety of charging their devices.\r\nThe students have enjoyed being the \"Tech Person,\" responsible for gathering devices for their particular group or class and putting them away neatly. The game changer has been that the cords are no longer tangled or bending incorrectly. Everything is seamlessly put away and ready for academic use.
