These resources have made an immediate and meaningful difference in our daily routines. With snacks available throughout the day, students are better able to regulate their energy, stay focused, and remain engaged in learning. Many of our families work hard to meet basic needs, and providing consistent nourishment at school has eased a significant burden. Students can now step into the classroom ready to learn rather than worried about hunger or discomfort, and the calm, consistent atmosphere has helped reduce behaviors triggered by unmet needs.\r\n\r\nYour donation has also helped bridge the gap between school and home in powerful ways. Our families often struggle to access essential items, and having these materials available has allowed us to support them with dignity and care. These resources have not only benefited students directly, but have also strengthened our relationships with families.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, students are now able to fully participate in classroom activities without the barriers they faced before. They proudly use their new items and show a noticeable boost in confidence and readiness. I watched one student, who often struggled to settle in for learning, open his snack, take a deep breath, and say, \"I'm ready to do my best today.\" Moments like these remind us how essential these basics are. These two books have had a powerful impact on our students—not just in terms of literacy skills, but in the way they've sparked curiosity, discussion, and a true love of reading.\r\n\r\nReading Frindle has encouraged our students to think deeply about the power of language and how change can start with a single, bold idea. As we read about Nick Allen and his creative idea to invent a new word, students were introduced to concepts like word origins, dictionaries, and social influence. We practiced identifying cause and effect, making inferences about character motivation, and drawing connections between text and real-life situations. This book sparked a classroom-wide vocabulary project where students invented and tried to spread their own new words. It was both fun and incredibly educational—a perfect combination.\r\n\r\nWith The Whipping Boy, students were immersed in a historical setting that led to rich discussions about justice, friendship, and personal growth. We explored character development as Prince Brat and Jemmy evolved throughout their adventures, and we analyzed themes like privilege and responsibility. The historical context of the book gave students a chance to learn about life in earlier centuries, while also making connections to modern ideas about fairness and equality. Students wrote their own short adventure stories using historical settings and presented them to the class, building both writing skills and confidence.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an interactive and collaborative experience. We read both independently and in small groups, using read-alouds, paired discussions, and journal reflections to deepen understanding. These new books have energized our reading sessions—students are more engaged, asking thoughtful questions, and even debating interpretations of character choices and themes. Our classroom is buzzing with excitement during reading time, and we're seeing measurable improvement in comprehension and fluency as students engage more deeply with meaningful texts.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who was previously a reluctant reader, has completely changed her attitude since starting Frindle. She related strongly to Nick's creativity and courage, and now she's the first to raise her hand during discussions. Another student, who often struggles with comprehension, surprised us all by giving a detailed analysis of Jemmy's changing relationship with Prince Brat. These moments are a reminder of how the right book at the right time can make a lasting difference.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, these books have become more than just stories—they're tools for learning, growing, and connecting. They've created space for students to see themselves as readers, thinkers, and even change-makers. We're deeply grateful for your generosity and the joy you've brought into our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758831156507,"projectUrl":"project/creativity-and-courage-building-readers/9751989/","projectTitle":"Creativity and Courage: Building Readers One Story at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Senegal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3693039_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758389032169","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3693039"},{"teacherId":1117244,"projectId":9710902,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my libraries and students.
