One memorable moment was when students worked together to examine the pig specimen as part of a lesson on anatomy and investigation. This activity encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion as students made observations and asked thoughtful questions.\r\n\r\nInitially, my students were hesitant and a bit unsure of how to begin. They were intrigued but also timid about touching the pig. However, once they got past the initial shock, their curiosity took over. Students became fully engaged as they identified the pig's gender, compared similar body parts to their own, and discussed its possible cause of death.\r\n\r\nNext, students will make connections between this investigation and real autopsies. They will learn how crime scene investigators and forensic scientists follow a series of detailed steps to solve crimes. This will help students get a better understanding for real-world science careers.","fullyFundedDate":1759265367670,"projectUrl":"project/crime-scene-investigators-pig-autospy/9691426/","projectTitle":"Crime Scene Investigators: Pig Autospy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jeffreys","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9026882_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753138463140","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9026882"},{"teacherId":9026882,"projectId":9205010,"letterContent":"When my students first opened the STEM career kits, their eyes lit up with excitement—they couldn't wait to dive in! Many of them immediately began asking questions about the different engineering fields and making connections to things they see every day, like bridges, apps, and machines.\r\n\r\nUsing the new resources, students explored careers in mechanical, software, civil, and hydraulics engineering. Each hands-on activity gave them a real-world connection to how engineers design, build, and solve problems. For example, while working with the hydraulics kit, students were amazed to see how fluid power could lift and move objects, sparking conversations about how these systems are used in construction and robotics.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students will be applying what they learned to design their own engineering challenges. They'll work in teams to brainstorm, build, and test creative solutions—just like real engineers. These experiences are not only teaching them about STEM careers but also inspiring them to see themselves as future problem-solvers and innovators.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students this opportunity to dream big and explore exciting possibilities in STEM!","fullyFundedDate":1753130142799,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-future-engineers-exploring-ca/9205010/","projectTitle":"Inspiring Future Engineers: Exploring Careers in STEM","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jeffreys","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9026882_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753138463140","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9026882"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47737","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":815,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":48,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":36,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.4,"schoolId":47737,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jefferson County Traditional Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jefferson County Traditional Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/jefferson-county-public-schools/jefferson-co-traditional-ms/47737"}
