The animal exploration project is something I am very excited to do. We will explore different animals, write about them, compare them, gather information about them, present our findings to others within the school, and finish it all off with a trip to the Evansville zoo! This is something that these students would never likely be able to do and it would not be possible without you. \r\n\r\nWe are creating drawings and writing pieces about the animals. We have been able to use the books and activities within the package to create a model using the clay, drawings using the guided books, and hopefully take pictures of the students with their mask and add them to our class book. \r\n\r\nThe students were extremely excited to know about the materials and find out all the amazing things that we are doing. They are excited to grow and experience the animals by the end of the year. We just finished our persuasive writing project by creating our own representation of ugly Christmas sweaters. They then had to write a letter to make someone want to buy their sweater. The next project will be begin to tackle is our informational animal writing. \r\n\r\nOnce again, I thank you tremendously for donating to our project. I can't wait to give this experience to my students and allow them to see and learn about items they normally wouldn't have learned about.","fullyFundedDate":1757599075532,"projectUrl":"project/animal-exploration/9668845/","projectTitle":"Animal Exploration!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wendler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9512568_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755380403220","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9512568"},{"teacherId":10031150,"projectId":9342034,"letterContent":"In my first-grade special education classroom, we are practicing phonics every day to become better readers. We have started the year by reviewing short vowel sounds and working hard on heart words that don't follow the rules of phonics (sound out). The crayon manipulatives are especially helpful in learning to sound out and create 3-letter CVC words, such as cat or sit. Also, the phonics readers are a big help in continued practice.\r\n\r\nThe more advanced books about historical figures and different diversity topics are books that I read aloud to my students. We started off the year learning different comprehension topics, such as being able to retell story parts of beginning, middle, and end, and now we are learning the difference between fiction and nonfiction. We will also be using the National Geographic books during our science time. They came in levels 1 and 2, so these are great books for them to practice reading as the year progresses.\r\n\r\nThe set of SPOT Takes Action is the favorite for two of my boys in my social skills class. They love hearing all of Spot's adventures and how he is making good choices! These items have been, and will continue to be, such a blessing to my students!","fullyFundedDate":1747664461146,"projectUrl":"project/mrs-allisons-new-library/9342034/","projectTitle":"Mrs. Allison’s New Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Allison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10031150_orig.jpg?crop=2569,2569,x0,y188&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747682330918","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10031150"},{"teacherId":9512568,"projectId":9613255,"letterContent":"This project will allow my students to explore a different country and experience a country that is not the one that we live in. The students that I teach come from a very rural residence and many students are never going to have the opportunity to travel to these places. With the materials and the books donated, my students will experience literature and have different supplies to be able to explore a country and show the other students within the school all of the learning that they are going to have. \r\n\r\nMy students will be able to explore the learning with books that were provided by the generous donations. They will be able to take the information they gain from the reading and create a project to present to other students and strengthen their learning as well. We will be able to create an environment that represents the country of Egypt. \r\n\r\nI have a few students that are extremely high in their learning. They are in the higher percentiles based on different scores and different tests that we have taken. They have taken a big interest in creating projects and creating slide shows / Google Docs in order to express themselves. With this information we will be able to grow their learning and knowledge by boosting collaboration and cooperation.","fullyFundedDate":1757599056111,"projectUrl":"project/traveling-to-egypt/9613255/","projectTitle":"Traveling to Egypt!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wendler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9512568_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755380403220","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9512568"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58172","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":515,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":89,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":63.0,"schoolId":58172,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Southside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Southside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/hopkins-county-school-district/southside-elementary-school/58172"}
