There were three bushels! The day before we planned to begin our project, I got students to volunteer for each station. The stations were breaking beans, washing jars, washing beans, jarring the beans, and sealing them to be placed in the canner. \r\n I've never had a classroom project that so excited my students and even the community. Canning beans is a rich tradition here in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Parents and grandparents were very supportive of the educational and life lessons learned.
