Our students at the alternative school range from Kindergarten to 12th grade. They are here because of repeated severe behaviors, drugs, or a fight on school property. Many are special education students who need more support than the regular education setting could give. \r\n\r\nWe have to be creative in how we manage behaviors and support them as they learn proper coping skills and managing emotions. This store helps us to show them responsiblity and consequences, both positive and negative, for their actions. It is something they can focus on daily to allow them positive reinforcement throughout the day.\r\n\r\nIt is also a great way to learn social skills, math, and problem solving skills. They have sorted the boxes, started to organize, and planned how they want to 'build a store.' It will be the project of our Emotional and Social Learning classes to continue throughout the year.
