After spending about three weeks at the end of class practicing how to effectively teach this game, the 5th-graders learned to ask insightful questions like what mistakes might 1st-graders likely make when learning and playing this game. 5th-grade students used a test to determine if the 1st-grade students were capable of independent use of their cards. Once the 1st graders could teach the game to the 5th graders they were paired with another 1st grader to practice. I think this gave the students an opportunity to understand how learning occurs.\r\n\r\n The atmosphere was set with 1st-graders taking an indoor field trip to the other side of the building. They were so excited to get a chance to visit our classroom. As a teacher, I observed many high fives and heard excited \"I won!\" from 1st-graders. The excitement grew even more as 5th-graders would present 1st-graders with a new deck of cards as 1st-graders completed the task of teaching. As I took the 1st graders back to their class they couldn't wait to tell the teacher about their new skills and show them their new deck of cards. \r\n\r\n The fifth graders had a fun time encouraging and building future leaders from within their community. The funding of this project not only provided 1st-graders with a card deck to practice a game, but also provided our young future community leaders with a valuable picture of what investing in others looks like, helping them in many facets of their young adult and adult lives. \r\n\r\n So thank you for investing in them! I know it will pay dividends for many years.","fullyFundedDate":1752949444260,"projectUrl":"project/trash-the-game-thats-not-a-chore/9443197/","projectTitle":"Trash! the Game That's Not a Chore","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10069175_orig.jpg?crop=879,879,x0,y129&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752517484752","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10069175"},{"teacherId":9643298,"projectId":9219527,"letterContent":"Here's a personalized 2–3 paragraph thank-you for your DonorsChoose donors:\r\n\r\n\r\n---\r\n\r\nDear Friends,\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generous support of our classroom project! For many of my students, these snacks mean they can focus better, participate more, and enjoy their school time without the distraction of hunger.\r\n\r\nYour gift goes far beyond a quick bite to eat—it shows my students that there are people out there who care about their well-being and want to see them succeed.
