This is a new position and program at this high school and if you are unfamiliar with the tasks of an interventionist, we provide small group and one-on-one instruction to students who have fallen behind for various reasons. This could be an accumulation of repeated absences, homelife factors, lack of work ethic, etc. Either way, these students have found themselves in the high school classroom reading on a 4th-8th grade reading level which continues the cycle of academic frustration. As an interventionist, I am able to meet with them during their elective classes once or twice a week to help fill in the learning gaps. In the short time that our school has had this program, students are stepping up their effort and holding themselves more accountable to ensure they are keeping up with their grade level pace of learning. \r\n\r\n\tThrough your donations, I have been able to entice students to read books...actual books! In the technology driven world of short entertaining videos, we have been able to slow it down and renew their love of reading. Even the students who are wildly disinterested in general reading have shown movement in the direction of reading for interest because of the resources you have provided. The chapter books are about real life topics that are more relevant to them than they imagined and the Spectrum Instructional books are providing direct and explicit instruction to close their learning gaps. There have been many \"lightbulb moments\" in my classroom this year and they are finally getting the help they need. Your donations have positively impacted about 15%-20% of the school population which is at least 100 students. There are even a handful of students who are not part of the Reading Intervention program that heard about the variety of book options and have asked to borrow them! \r\n\r\n\tThank you for using your generosity to help with our Reading Intervention program!
