During early units in 6th grade we were able to read about the digestive system using the graphic novels. This isn't necessarily one of the students favorite subjects but the humor used while using correct science terms made it easier for most students. Some students even checked out another one from the library on germs that I hadn't requested. Taking turns reading the graphic novels while projected using the document camera let students practice reading aloud. The science in sports series helped students see their vocabulary words in something some of them participate in outside of school. \r\nThe erasable colored pencils are game changing for marking the text and taking notes.
