They have just finished reading the Diary of Anne Frank and are finishing up their journal entries. Once they have them complete, they will use their journal entries to help themselves write their expository paper. The students were intrigued when they first saw the journals knowing it was for them but not knowing what it was for yet. When I told them that they were donated to help with our writing they were not at first excited. Not because they didn't want the journals but because they didn't want to use them for school, but these students have been writing in them for about a month now and their growth in their writing is amazing to see! Many now no longer rely on simply summarizing what happened in a text but are now analyzing it and explaining their thoughts and feelings of what happened. Their writing stamina has improved greatly too; many of them are now able to easily write full pages of reflection when that was something they didn't think they could do, and it thanks to you and your generosity that this was able to happen! Because of you these students have a better relationship to writing!","fullyFundedDate":1727288575862,"projectUrl":"project/support-reflective-writers-and-critical/8702546/","projectTitle":"Support Reflective Writers and Critical Thinkers Through Journaling","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Glenn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9706578"},{"teacherId":6400465,"projectId":8427311,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing the resources for my students to improve their logical reasoning skills while improving their executive function skills and getting to know their classmates. Abducktion is their favorite to play and the logical reasoning they have to use sometimes confuses them, but once they've earned a card by completing the pattern, they feel a sense of confidence. They also like to work in teams, but it's better when they work in teams of 2 and only 2 teams. If I try teams of 4 with 2 on each team, it gets loud and overwhelming for them, but they love playing in teams of 2 or even 4 individuals. It gives them a break from being on their iPads doing the online program for math intervention. \r\nThey like the Mathological Liar cards that had to replace the unavailable card stacking games. They like to be able to work together to figure out who is right and who is wrong. The students can move and get some of their energy out without having to move all over the room and it helps some that are anxious too.
