The two versions side-by-side made the story accessible to all kinds of learners. The novel-in-verse grabbed the attention of students who might otherwise struggle with longer texts, while the graphic novel, with its vivid illustrations, helped visual learners connect more deeply with the emotions and themes. Both formats sparked great discussions about grief, family, and choices, and how storytelling can take so many forms.\r\n One of the standout moments was a creative project where students centered on Rule #3: Always get revenge. I attached a picture of a sample of one student's work. The students revisited the moment when Will explains this rule, analyzing how it's depicted in the novel-in-verse versus the graphic novel and reimagined this moment in their own way. Some drew comic panels inspired by the graphic novel, combining their artwork with their own poetry. Others wrote scripts to act out the scene, adding dialogue and movement to bring the emotions to life. Watching the students connect with Will's story, challenge the rules he's grown up with, and express their own perspectives was powerful. These new novels didn't just teach them about literature, but also helped foster critical thinking about the world at large.
