My students check on him daily, read to him during calm-down time, and proudly teach visitors how to care for him. Several students who struggle with regulation or confidence have found in Draco a steady, calming companion — and that's only possible because of you.\r\n\r\nWe are already seeing the impact:\r\n• Students are using scientific vocabulary to describe his behaviors.\r\n• They are collaborating, taking turns, and problem-solving as they help with maintenance.\r\n• And perhaps most importantly, Draco has become a safe, joyful part of our learning community.\r\n\r\nYour support didn't just fund supplies — it helped create moments of connection, curiosity, and confidence for kids who need it most.","fullyFundedDate":1759856987026,"projectUrl":"project/caring-for-our-class-pet-a-bearded-drag/9761344/","projectTitle":"Caring for Our Class Pet: a Bearded Dragon Adventure","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Schade","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10185992_orig.jpg?crop=1280,1280,x0,y162&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758817675128","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10185992"},{"teacherId":10224998,"projectId":9651964,"letterContent":"The resources purchased for our Family Fiesta played an essential role in helping us celebrate the rich cultures represented in our school community. Thanks to these materials, students and families were able to engage in meaningful and joyful activities that highlighted traditions from many backgrounds. Students especially loved the hands-on stations, face painting, and delicious food that helped bring the event to life. The entire atmosphere was vibrant, welcoming, and full of excitement as everyone explored and shared in one another's cultural traditions.\r\n\r\nThroughout the event, families, students, and staff came together with genuine enthusiasm. Laughter and conversation filled the space as people socialized, reconnected, and formed new relationships. One of the most memorable moments was when everyone gathered around the entertainment area to enjoy the musical and dance performances. The energy of the crowd, combined with the pride students felt while showcasing their cultures, truly captured the purpose of our celebration. This long-standing school tradition continues to build community and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes our school special.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps are to continue nurturing this sense of unity and inclusion throughout the year. We hope to create more opportunities for students and families to feel seen, valued, and connected to our school community. Because of you, my English learners have brand-new, high-interest graphic novels in Spanish, and the impact has been incredible.\r\n\r\nThese books have made it so much easier (and way more fun!) to introduce big reading concepts like problem/solution, character traits, and sequencing in a way that makes sense to them—first in Spanish, then in English. They're taking them home, and their families are reading them too! Seeing that love of reading spread beyond the classroom is something truly special. \r\n\r\nMany of the Spanish books in our library were old, falling apart, and—let's be real—not super exciting. But now? These kids are devouring their new books so fast I can barely keep up! The joy on their faces when they grab a new graphic novel (like Dog Man, Babysitter's Club, etc.) is pure magic. Also, a huge shoutout to the Olathe Schools Foundation for dollar-matching and helping get these books into students' hands even faster. Thank you for making such a difference—you've not only given them books, but you've given them the excitement and confidence to grow as readers and keep their first language strong.","fullyFundedDate":1724683361080,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-literacy-providing-engaging-b/8695719/","projectTitle":"Unlocking Literacy: Providing Engaging Books in Students' Native Languages","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Knowles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp988202_orig.png?crop=710,710,x0,y63&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739073044606","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/elizabeth-knowles"},{"teacherId":9127238,"projectId":8809542,"letterContent":"Your support has made a significant impact on our students and their ability to spread kindness throughout our school community. We are thrilled to share with you the positive progress the Kindness Club has made so far and the exciting plans for the future!\r\n\r\nThanks to your donation, our students have been able to engage in a variety of thoughtful and meaningful activities. One of the first projects the Kindness Club members took part in was reading kindness-themed books to younger students. These stories have helped foster empathy and compassion within our school and have provided a way for students to connect and bond over shared values. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, our students organized and carried out \"Surprise Sticker Days,\" where they distributed fun and colorful kindness stickers to classmates. This simple gesture has created a ripple effect of positivity throughout the school, lifting spirits and reminding everyone of the small acts of kindness that can make a big difference.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the Kindness Club has even more exciting plans in the works! With your help, we are preparing to gift every student with a friendship bracelet kit. This project will allow students to express their creativity and make something special to share with a friend. It also reinforces the values of connection, community, and kindness, which are at the heart of everything we do in the Kindness Club.\r\n\r\nThe enthusiasm and excitement among the students are truly contagious. They are deeply invested in spreading kindness throughout our school, and they are learning firsthand how their actions, no matter how small, can have a big impact. The Kindness Club is fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and support, and your contribution has been key to making all of this possible.\r\n\r\nIt is thanks to donors like you that our students are able to learn the importance of kindness, compassion, and community. Once again, thank you for your generous donation and for helping us create a more caring and inclusive environment for all of our students.","fullyFundedDate":1730933374549,"projectUrl":"project/kindness-club-spreads-joy-and-positivity/8809542/","projectTitle":"Kindness Club Spreads Joy and Positivity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Riley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9127238"},{"teacherId":9517372,"projectId":8772206,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing the snacks and food motivators for my students! Now, these students aren't hungry in the afternoons, which helps prevent behaviors in our classroom. \r\n\r\nA perfect example is one of my students. She has been refusing to eat or even be in the lunch room. By making this choice, by 1 PM she is starving. However, given that she is nonverbal, she cannot communicate this need and instead is hitting and pinching staff members and crying. Since your choice to donate provided plenty of snack options, I have been able to provide her with something to fill her belly before the negative behaviors happen and therefore have been able to stop them from happening altogether. \r\n\r\nYour support means the world to me and I am so lucky that you found, and funded, my project.
