Because of your generosity, my students now walk into a room that feels warm, inviting, and full of possibility. The new books have quickly become the heart of our classroom—students gravitate toward them the moment they walk in.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest hits so far is Framed. My 8th graders can't get enough of it! I frequently see students passing it between friends, recommending their favorite twists, or asking if there are more books like it. Watching them get so excited about a story has been such a joy.\r\n\r\nThese new texts allow us to build authentic literacy skills every day. Students are practicing:\r\nIndependent reading stamina as they browse and settle into books that truly interest them.\r\nInference and critical thinking as we pause to discuss characters' decisions and motivations.\r\nVocabulary growth through exposure to rich, varied writing styles.\r\nReal conversations about books—what makes a story compelling, what they notice as readers, and how they connect to characters.\r\nReading in our classroom looks cozy, calm, and engaged. Students stretch out on the floor, curl up in chairs, or lean over desks comparing books. There's a steady hum of quiet excitement as they browse the shelves, ask for recommendations, or celebrate finishing a book.\r\n\r\nYour donation has made this possible—especially for students who have struggled to find joy in reading. I've watched reluctant readers proudly finish books for the first time this year. One student who rarely participates now comes in each morning asking if any new mysteries have been added. Another who typically reads below grade level is so hooked on Framed that she's been reading during any spare moment she can find.\r\nYou didn't just give us books. You helped create a reading culture. You gave my students a space where stories feel accessible, where books feel exciting, and where reading is something to look forward to.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in them—and in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1755015133890,"projectUrl":"project/rolling-into-reading-building-a-diverse/9526931/","projectTitle":"Rolling Into Reading: Building a Diverse Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Colvin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9497823"},{"teacherId":7068089,"projectId":9472077,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. The impact was far more than I anticipated. Every year we do a Psychology Unit where we explore various parts of how the brain works, specifically regarding the gifted brain. One of those activities is exploring the concept of \"masking\" and the students are charged with creating a visual representation of the masks they wear on a daily basis. \r\n\r\nI got some amazing answers this year. One student used pipe cleaners swirling through the eye sockets to represent the constant flow of information into his brain and how it overwhelms the brain on the inside. In our Careers class, we've been focusing on stress management and essential job skills like teamwork and problem-solving. The new resources you helped fund were a huge hit! The students immediately gravitated toward the fidgets and sensory tools. They told me how calming they found them and even mentioned how some items helped them stay focused during lessons. I even shared the materials with other classes, and they were just as popular—creating a calm, focused environment that students didn't want to leave.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest highlights was a boat-building project where students worked in teams to create boats out of duct tape and cardboard. It was amazing to see students step up as leaders, delegate tasks, and work together through trial and error. The excitement was contagious! We wrapped up the project by racing the boats across a small pool, and not only did my students cheer each other on, but other classes came in to watch as well. It became a school-wide moment of fun, creativity, and learning.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, my students will continue using these resources as we dive deeper into topics like grit, perseverance, and communication skills. The fidgets will be a permanent tool in our classroom, supporting focus and stress relief during future projects. The games you provided have brought so much excitement and engagement to our classroom. \r\n\r\nThese games have become more than just fun activities—they've been instrumental in helping students make connections to the careers we've been exploring. For example, during our lessons on teamwork and communication, students related the collaborative problem-solving required in the games to real-world professions like project management and healthcare. It's been incredible to see them make these connections while building valuable skills. \r\n\r\nBeyond career exploration, these games have been a fantastic tool for fostering social skills. Learning new games together has encouraged students to practice patience, take turns, and handle both wins and losses gracefully. These experiences are helping them develop the interpersonal skills they'll need in future jobs and everyday life. \r\n\r\nAs we move forward, I plan to incorporate these games into small group activities and team-building challenges, tying them back to our lessons on essential workplace skills.
