This is my 7th year as a teacher, and I have spent my whole career at the same school in the same classroom. I use my TV throughout each class, all day, every day. It is an essential component of my instructional practice. As a choir teacher, I use it to display all of my lessons from a slideshow, show instructional videos, and guide students through completing assignments. \r\n\r\nHowever, the TV I had before was too small for the size of my room and the number of students placed in my classes. There have been many times where I've had to rearrange my seating chart so that students with poor vision could be close enough to read my TV. For this reason, I have wanted a larger TV for several years now, but I didn't know how to make it happen for my students. \r\n\r\nWhen I got the opportunity to create a project with Donors Choose, I was so excited to be able to offer this new TV to my classes. My project went without being fully funded from April through July, so I had pretty much given up on it. But thanks to all of you generous donors, it was finally fully funded! I shared the news with all of my classes, and they were just as excited as I was. Now, I can project my lessons, guide them through completing their assignments, and show instructional videos and know that ALL of my students can fully see what is on the TV. \r\n\r\nPerhaps a larger TV might not seem like a big deal to some people, but to be gifted this TV makes me feel valued as a teacher, and makes my students feel valued as learners. It communicates to me that there are people out there who want me to do my job well, and who are willing to donate their own resources to help me do that. And it communicates to my students (who spend their day in an old building with aging furniture and technology) that they are worthy of nice things, and that their learning is important enough to be invested in by strangers. \r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of my heart for what you have done to enhance my students' classroom experience. The students are so excited to see how many tuners are available to them and they were very excited to learn how to use them. We took a class period and showed each student how to clip the tuner on to their bridge and what to look for as they tuned their strings with fine tuners. \r\n\r\nEach day the students tune themselves by listening to a given pitch. We then work as a class, tuning off of each other and try to get as close as we can to being in tune before we work with the tuners. With large classes it can take forever for each student to use a tuner, but with these tuners we are able to pass them around the room and students are able to finish tuning themselves. Additionally they are able to grab a tuner during class if their instrument falls out of tune, rather than a teacher needing to stop instruction to help that student. \r\n\r\nThe students feel so much more independent and confident knowing that they are able to check their own work and evaluate their own skills in tuning by ear, as well as tuning with their fine tuners.
