Your very generous donations made this happen.\r\nWhen the boxes first arrived in my classroom, it really was Christmas for all of us. I opened the boxes, then stepped back. The students' excitement grew with each package they removed from the box, and I was especially touched when they were racing to show each other the treasure they held. The sharing that I saw told me that we were already growing in the lesson of relationship building and their communication clearly conveyed how thrilled they were.\r\nThe first day, I place one or two sets of blocks in centers throughout the room. What I observed, at first, puzzled and disappointed me. Over and over again, I saw a student take a box off the shelf but quickly put it back without playing with the new blocks. They had been just overjoyed at the new blocks, but now they weren't playing with them. When I sat down to engage students with the blocks, I came to realize that they didn't know how to play with the blocks; lesson for us adults in the room. So, for the next few weeks, as we introduced each new block set, an adult was in the mix to demonstrate how the blocks can be used. \r\nI am so very pleased to share with you that students are now leading students, just as I add envisioned and hoped for. I've included pictures that will show you how excited they were when your gift arrived, how they are working with a partner or in a small group, and you'll even see pictures where they are laying out the illustration of possibilities from the manufacturer and following the directions. They have gone from stacking blocks in a straight tower, or flat in a row, to creations that have shape and dimension.\r\nFor me, it absolutely fills my heart to hear them articulate taking turns, suggesting and sharing ideas, and encouraging each other when an attempt fails. Thank you for the difference you've made for my students, and for me, too.","fullyFundedDate":1733155618660,"projectUrl":"project/building-the-power-of-playful-learning/8977886/","projectTitle":"Building the Power of Playful Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kelly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9850598"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_55825","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":460,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - Pre-K","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":55825,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Early Childhood Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Early Childhood Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/geary-county-unified-school-district-475/hauge-heim-early-childhood-ctr/55825"}
