We originally hoped to hatch the week before spring break but a surprising number of snow days derailed our plans. I think that hatching our chicks so close to Easter has actually made the experience even more meaningful and exciting.\r\n\r\nWe have had a wonderful time drawing in our chick journals each day and writing down each step of development throughout the twenty-one day incubation period. Students have been amazed by how quickly our chicks have grown inside their shells!\r\n\r\nTo add even more meaning to the project, we have been able to watch a live stream of a pair of wild bald eagles for several months as they laid eggs, incubated them, and hatched young of their own. It has been fascinating to watch birds in nature and compare them to the birds we have incubated right here in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWe can't thank you enough for investing in our learning. The peelers and pots came a few days before our student Thanksgiving lunch for our high school. This meal is made by several high school organizations and served to students and staff. My students used 60 pounds of potatoes to make mashed potatoes using the peelers and cooking pots. We also used the 9\" x 13\" glass dishes for pumpkin and brownie desserts. \r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to try the new peelers and all the new kitchen products. I am glad to get the heavy paper. I make copies of the recipes we make together for each student to have their very own recipe book to take home at the end of class. This is a wonderful keepsake and a motivation to cook more at home and in the future. \r\n\r\nI remember the teacher that taught me how to cook and sew in high school. I want to pass the same knowledge onto the students in my classes today. I couldn't do this without ALL OF YOU!
