Your generosity has allowed us to bring exciting, hands-on STEM experiences into our classroom, and I'm thrilled to share what we've been working on.\r\n\r\nHow are we using the new resources?\r\nThis year's \"Submerged\" theme has been a big hit with our students. They've learned about ocean pollution, explored real-world environmental issues, and brainstormed creative solutions. One of our projects has focused on designing a robot inspired by the baleen of whales, creating a mechanism to filter debris, much like whales filter food from the ocean. It's been incredible to see their teamwork and problem-solving skills come to life as they worked together to develop this unique concept.\r\n\r\nHow did my students react when they first saw the materials?\r\nThe students were so excited when the LEGO robotics kits arrived. Students were eager to dive in, explore the materials, and start building. The hands-on nature of this program has engaged them in ways we hadn't seen before, sparking curiosity and creativity as they experimented with their designs.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for our classroom?\r\nWith the guidance of a volunteer from John Deere, who has been a fantastic resource, students have developed technical skills and gained a better understanding of the collaborative process involved in robotics. While we aren't participating in a competition this week, we've been learning about the process, building confidence, and preparing for the opportunity to join competitions next year.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, our students are growing as critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and collaborators. We are so grateful for the opportunity to introduce this program into our classroom and excited about the foundation we're building for the future.","fullyFundedDate":1728583878770,"projectUrl":"project/first-lego-league-team/8815040/","projectTitle":"First Lego League Team","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Henderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9774657"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_51442","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":300,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":34,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":84,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":73.7,"schoolId":51442,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Hamilton Middle High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Hamilton Middle High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/south-hamilton-community-school-district/south-hamilton-middle-high-school/51442"}
