This book was used to discuss what it means to live in the US today from different perspectives. I used it as part of our unit about culture. The students got to pick 1 story to focus on, read, summarize and share from that writer's point of view.\r\nThe students especially enjoyed reading the sections for Liza Koshy, Jeremy Lin, America Ferreira and Lin-Manuel Miranda since they knew of them. We discussed their experiences and also the \"American Dream.\" Using real-life stories helped show how different values come together to form our world. \r\nThe best part of using this book was bringing in diverse perspectives. Many of my students are racially and ethically diverse and appreciated the inclusivity of this book. It also gave them a deeper understanding of some famous people that they did not know before. This book really enriched our classes and I cannot thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1744645956073,"projectUrl":"project/diverse-stories-for-sociology/9232420/","projectTitle":"Diverse Stories for Sociology","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4831487_orig.jpg?crop=641,641,x785,y327&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565451389248","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4831487"},{"teacherId":6530156,"projectId":9733678,"letterContent":"Thank you so much again for your generous donation to restock our student incentive store this year. Whether they are buying Pop-Tarts or Oreos or saving up for a water bottle or apparel, our students love to bring their dollars to the store every week. They used them for my Economics and Sociology courses and I know they took them to use in Physics, Chemistry, Probability & Statistics, Calculus, and Literature & Composition as well. \r\nThe vinyl stickers were a big hit. When students participated in class discussions they were rewarded with the stickers. They loved all the options and this made them eager to talk.
