The 4th graders really enjoyed working on this. When they saw it was clay day they all cheered and then when they saw what the project was going to be they got even more excited. We are currently working on finishing it up and they had so much fun making the clay shapes and deciding on colors for the pots. It is really exciting to see their faces light up when they place the cacti into the pot and have them stand up. \r\nThe students were very engaged with this project and loved being able to try out different textures directly into the clay. We also talked about how you can create implied texture with paint or oil pastel. Students were eager to experiment with the paint. When we discussed that we were using air dry clay and it was a material available in stores, and did not need a kiln to be dried, some students became very eager to try some out at home. One student even told me she was going to use her allowance to get some more clay at home and make more cacti pots for gifts for her family members. \r\nI again want to thank you for your generosity. This lesson was truly enjoyed by students and would not have been a possibility without your donation.","fullyFundedDate":1730392985423,"projectUrl":"project/clay-cacti-pots/8896631/","projectTitle":"Clay Cacti Pots","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Archer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9812437_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753393134561","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9812437"},{"teacherId":9812437,"projectId":8896731,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the donation of acrylic paint! The students love using the medium. They are practicing mixing colors and learning how to make many different tints and shades. Students have really enjoyed how vibrant the colors are and how smooth the paints go on the paper. In addition to learning new techniques in the medium, they are also learning important clean up skills. This paint requires attention to how well the materials are cleaned, such as brushes and palettes, since the paint does not easily wash off with water alone. It may seem simple but this material has made a difference. Students were able to use watercolor paper for various assignments across different grade levels! All students were able to recognize that the paper felt heavier and the watercolors were giving better colors than your typical drawing paper that we normally use. We have been using the paper with both pan and liquid watercolors and students have been thrilled with the results. With this paper I notice they have been taking more care to not let their paper get torn or ripped. One thing that first grade tried was adding salt to the watercolor to create a \"frosty\" look and they thought this was so fun. The salt trick works so much better with the watercolor paper so they got the full experience with this paper. They are really enjoying the artwork they are creating!","fullyFundedDate":1730392631104,"projectUrl":"project/plain-ol-watercolor-paper-needed/8904447/","projectTitle":"Plain ol' Watercolor Paper Needed","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Archer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9812437_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753393134561","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9812437"},{"teacherId":9812437,"projectId":8904416,"letterContent":"Thank you for the liquid watercolors. The students have really been enjoying working with medium! This project shown in the photos has been a favorite in 5th grade! Several students told me how much they liked this project. I think they all really liked trying out the liquid watercolors as it was new and the colors were vibrant. They also liked that there was some metallics to mix in with it. I have also used them with 3rd grade and 1st grade. As one first grader said, \"whoa! This color is SICK!\" I love to see the enthusiasm and excitement!
