The students love being able to use the whiteboards with dry-erase markers and erasers to complete their do-nows and checks for understanding. They are more engaged with being able to fidget their feet on the blue bands around their chairs and desks. On Wednesdays, the classes can sit comfortably throughout the classroom to listen to our novel of the quarter read aloud. Before we had the mats the kids would sit or lie on the cold floor. Now they can choose a soft mat to sit or lie on. They ask to use them more often. I have now added a day to use the mats and the table tops. On Fridays, the children have time to complete make-up work and silently read. They may sit comfortably anywhere in the classroom. They often use the table tops and mats to sit on the floor. They also use the carpet to lie down and silently read.\r\n\r\nThe first time they saw the materials they were curious who they were for. Then as we began using them they were excited and eager to use the materials more and more. They look forward to coming to class to use the bands on the desks and chairs. They no longer have to be told to put all their chair legs on the floor several times throughout the class period. I am thinking of incorporating 15 to 20 minutes every day for silent reading or centers where a group of students have time to use the mats or carpet with the table tops to complete work. \r\nAgain, thank you for helping me create a cozy environment for my scholars.","fullyFundedDate":1730267855542,"projectUrl":"project/rugged-learning-of-reading-and-writing/8599208/","projectTitle":"Rugged Learning of Reading and Writing","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Roby","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9638015"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_20667","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":537,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":72,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":41,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":28,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":20667,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Andrew Jackson Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Andrew Jackson Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/indiana/south-bend-community-school-corporation/andrew-jackson-interm-ctr/20667"}
