They then use their creation to write narratives about their work. \r\n\r\nThe students eyes lit up and their excitement was vocalized with \"awesome and this is so fun!!\". They wanted to spend more time when our timer went off for the next lesson planned for the day. My students have enjoyed reading and learning through the Scholastic News and Time For Kids magazines. It is a great way to get engaged in nonfiction text! \r\n\r\nStudents have learned new vocabulary about pumpkins growing, different kinds of food, different job types for humans and dogs:) and science lessons. We have also learned about math graphing, riddles, text features, maps, and so much more. We have a whole year to receive this subscription, so this is just the beginning!! Wow!!\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is varied as my students have challenging reading needs; however, with both of these magazines, we read aloud and do \"popcorn\" reading. As students follow along, when I stop, they then read the word that they know-- \"pop the word\" we call it. It is a great way to engage all learners and increase their confidence as they are reading words! \r\n\r\nAll of my students enjoy the engaging and fun activities that are provided at the end of the magazines. One specific classroom project I want to share is using our new journals and markers for \"Write on Wednesdays\". On Wednesdays, we focus less on typing and technology and use handwriting for our lessons. The new journals made it possible for each student to get a new journal. After they write from our \"Reader's Response\" lesson, they are able to use the new markers to draw and illustrate their sentences.\r\n \r\nThe students loved opening up our boxes and discovering the new resources. I would pass around the box for the students to shake and try to guess what they thought it might be based upon weight, size and sound from shaking the box! \r\n\r\nThe next project I have posted that I would LOVE to get funded is called, \"Feed Your Body; Feed Your Mind\". This project focuses on snack time to support full tummies so minds can focus on learning, not hunger. Thank you! \r\n\r\nThe students loved seeing our boxes arrive for our project, \"Snacks & Social Skills; Please & Thank You\". These are basic skills that most of my students are lacking. So it is a very big deal for life skill development! \r\n\r\nMy next project is \"Please & Thank You; Learning Restaurant Etiquette\". Seems like a simple concept, but the lunchroom monitors tell me that these skills of eating together are NOT a simple concept. For this project, we will focus on table etiquette; such as appropriate conversation, manners, respect for food, waiting, and so much more. My goals for my students are for them to learn and model proper restaurant etiquette and respect others while dining. We will also learn how to set the table correctly with visual placemats from \"Silicone Baby Placemat, Kids Placemats for Dining Table, Montessori Placemat\". I want to teach the next generation to be respectful & mindful of others while dining. Sadly it is lacking in our culture today. It is a skill needed for life. And, for this project, the teachers and staff felt so appreciated and even sent me emails and cards of how much this project gave them joy and value! \r\n\r\nThe students enjoyed working as a team, and even learning how to problem solve when we had an issue arise with inventory needs (running out of drinks or a certain snack) or delegating jobs among themselves (who is going to deliver to Mrs. Cat or who wants to hand out the drinks?) It was a memorable learning experience in working together as a team to get the job done. \r\n\r\nThe next project I would LOVE to see funded is called \"Learning Through Play\". When the students saw the new Lego tub and \"Steve\" Mindcraft box, they were really excited for the chance to work and build.
