Last year, tax law in my state changed, resulting in millions of dollars a year being removed from school budgets in my community.\r\n\r\nWhen my school was named the Sustainability Innovation Award team for the 2023 competition, I got a gift for my classroom that has been unparalleled: a wonderful, high reliability, easy to use digital display. Prior to that, my science students and I had been filling out worksheets together on a document camera.\r\n\r\nSo, the gift of the displays will be absolutely incredible for our school. There is no way we would've been able to afford this technology upgrade otherwise. When I visited a math classroom recently with custodial services to see where the board should be hung, the teacher shared that their antiquated SmartBoard had never worked properly. They have been using a projector and a screen all this time.\r\n\r\nThis award also provided a washer and dryer to our art department. Our incredible department chair Stephanie Benham has been taking aprons from the sculpture class home to wash every night, resulting in clay everywhere in her home and on her personal clothes. She is absolutely delighted to be able to do the laundry directly at school, and in a powerful machine that doesn't tangle the apron strings.\r\n\r\nTruly, I am so grateful that the Samsung Solve For Tomorrow program sees the potential of students and teachers working in classrooms across the country as a worthy and high-priority investment.","fullyFundedDate":1753902248435,"projectUrl":"project/storm-shield-supports-steam-samsung-sol/9494721/","projectTitle":"Storm Shield Supports STEAM: Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2025","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Milks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9056594_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685882845692","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9056594"},{"teacherId":9056594,"projectId":9494181,"letterContent":"Seeing the look on my team's face when they were named the Samsung Solve For Tomorrow Rising Entrepreneurs for 2025 was an incredible experience!\r\n\r\nThe students are so thankful for the ability to purchase the technology they will need to continue their collaboration, even as half the team is now attending college at various universities across the country.\r\n\r\nI also want to recognize Samsung, who is continuing to work with the Storm Shield team in an incubator setting and is excited to help the students bring their product to market.
