With these new books, students are practicing comprehension, analyzing characters and themes, making inferences, and building stamina as readers. Because the texts are high-interest and student-selected, they're also learning how to engage more deeply with what they read and have more meaningful discussions with their peers.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is a daily routine. Students have dedicated time to read independently, track their progress, and respond through projects or discussions. It's not just about finishing a book—it's about thinking, connecting, and growing as readers.\r\n\r\nI've seen several students who were previously disengaged become excited about reading because they finally found books they actually enjoy. Some are asking for more time to read, recommending books to friends, and even continuing their books at home. It's been really powerful to watch their confidence grow.","fullyFundedDate":1773884338079,"projectUrl":"project/building-lifelong-readers-one-book-at-a/10092142/","projectTitle":"Building Lifelong Readers, One Book at a Time- Book Requests","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brubaker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9720285_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725324728786","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9720285"},{"teacherId":10041597,"projectId":9946610,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our music classroom. Because of your contribution, my students now have access to a full set of clip-on tuners, which are already making a meaningful difference in their daily learning! With these tuners, students are able to independently check and adjust their pitch at the start of class, allowing us to spend more time making music together. This small shift has made our rehearsals more efficient and focused from the very first note.\r\n\r\nBeyond saving valuable class time, these tuners are helping students build essential lifelong skills. They are learning how to listen critically, make adjustments, and take ownership of their sound. They can continue to practice these skills at home, especially over the summer months when they are away from the classroom. Having the ability to tune on their own empowers them to practice more effectively and confidently outside of school.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the overall sound of our ensemble has improved dramatically. As we explore new key signatures and expand our range of notes, students can visually and aurally confirm when they are in tune, leading to a more cohesive and beautiful performance. Your support has not only provided a tool, but has elevated the musical experience for every student in the room. When we read a novel together, we are not just following the story—we are learning how to analyze characters, track themes, make predictions, and support our thinking with evidence from the text. This book has been especially powerful for teaching students how authors build tension and develop complex characters over time. Students are constantly discussing Katniss's decisions, the pressure she faces, and the larger themes of power, rebellion, and sacrifice.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is very interactive. Students read sections of the novel both independently and together, and we pause often to discuss what is happening and why it matters. They annotate key passages, participate in small-group discussions, and complete creative activities that help them think more deeply about the story. It's incredibly rewarding to see students who may not have considered themselves \"readers\" become invested in the plot and eager to find out what happens next.\r\n\r\nSome of my students have become especially excited about this series because of how immersive the story is. I've had students come in the next day saying they couldn't stop thinking about the chapter we read or asking if they could read ahead. Moments like that remind me how powerful the right book can be. Your support has helped create those moments and has given my students the opportunity to experience a novel that truly captures their interest and builds their confidence as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1769210073938,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-a-love-for-reading-with-catching/9952618/","projectTitle":"Fueling a Love for Reading with Catching Fire","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brubaker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9720285_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725324728786","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9720285"},{"teacherId":9720285,"projectId":9434455,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for supporting my classroom through our \"Classroom Basics\" project. Your generosity has already made a noticeable impact, and I wanted to take a moment to share what a difference you've made for my students.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our classroom is stocked with the essentials many people don't realize we run out of so quickly — pencils, paper, erasers, paper towels, and other daily supplies. These may sound simple, but in a middle school classroom, they are truly the backbone of learning. Having these materials readily available has removed the stress and embarrassment for students who don't always have what they need. Now, instead of worrying about supplies, every student can focus on participating, writing, thinking, and learning.\r\n\r\nI've already seen an increase in student confidence and engagement. Students are eager to jump into activities because they know they are fully equipped. The basic supplies you funded have created a calm, productive learning environment where all students feel prepared and included — and that is priceless.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and in the work we are doing every day. Each binder serves as a personal hub where students can keep all of their materials in one place, including their journals, notes, and class handouts. Having a designated space for everything means fewer lost papers and missing assignments, which is a common challenge in middle school.\r\n\r\nThe binders also include a pencil pouch with basic supplies, ensuring that students are always prepared for class—even if they aren't able to bring materials from home. This consistency allows us to spend more time learning and less time tracking down missing items.\r\n\r\nBy keeping everything in one organized spot, my students are able to build habits that will help them not just in English class, but across all subjects.
