These texts have allowed me to teach skills like making predictions, identifying main ideas, and exploring character development. For my English learners, we've focused on building vocabulary, improving comprehension, and connecting the stories to their personal experiences. These books encourage critical thinking and spark lively discussions that go far beyond the pages, helping students grow not just as readers but as thoughtful learners. \r\n\r\nOur book club has become a highlight of the day. Students read independently, with partners, or in small groups, and we always make time to share thoughts and reflections. One student, who used to be hesitant about reading, has discovered a love for graphic novels and is always excited to explain the storylines to her classmates. Another student, who is a gifted reader, has taken on the challenge of tackling new genres and pushing his own limits. Watching my students engage with books that excite and inspire them has been so rewarding. It's clear that these stories are helping them grow their confidence, expand their vocabulary, and develop a genuine love for reading.","fullyFundedDate":1723648954455,"projectUrl":"project/book-club-for-my-bilingual-students/8480705/","projectTitle":"Book Club For My Bilingual Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Millan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9582666_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720016509157","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9582666"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_27159","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":563,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":22,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":27159,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hillman Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hillman Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/rockford-public-schools-district-205/hillman-elementary-school/27159"}
