They were so grateful because of the expense they did not have to incur. I am also grateful, because I didn't have to spend the extra money for supplies such as tissues and baby wipes, that while doesn't sound like a lot, they add up. This allowed me to spend more on snacks to begin the school year. \r\n\r\nSupplies are getting more expensive every year and when parents have 2 or 3 children that require different supplies, some lists longer than other, it gets costly. The items that I received have made a great impact with my students. \r\n\r\nIn my classroom, we have a \"safe space.\" This is a space where the students can go if they are feeling angry or just need some time to themselves. I put the lap blankets back in my space so that they can be used at any time. I notice that my students use them when they are calming their bodies when they are feeling especially frustrated. The blankets have been a great addition in helping my students calm. \r\n\r\nThe fish tank is loved by every student in my room. My kids love wandering over to it and just stare. My autistic student loves the fish and even carries one around. The other teachers love it so much, they had my principal purchase one for each of them. Many of the supplies, like the deodorant, will be distributed through all students after receiving a lesson from me on healthy hygiene practices. Other supplies, like the hair ties, lotion, and body wipes, will be used on an individual basis, in private, when students come to school not feeling their most confident. \r\nLittle items like this do make a difference in the way kids see themselves, especially among their peers at school.
